CHAPTER 13

Alana poured the girl tea to drink whilst she was assisted by Oscar while going downstairs. Seline sat down in the dining room, tea and biscuits on her plate.

Alana had a huge smile on her face, "How was it?" Eager to know what it was the two had discussed.

Seline watched the vapor from the cup of tea disappear in the air. The girl was still visibly sad. It felt like the whole world had come to fall on her. There was some kind of regret that was pushed in her. The girl questioned why she even accepted that role. Oscar saw the teen's reaction, patting Alana to lower her energy.

"What happened, Seline?"
Words scattered in her brain as well as
memories of her old life. It felt like she was slipping away from it. She missed her sister. She missed friend.

Her head moved down, as if she tried praying for the health of her sister. Tears pooled in her eyes, she blinked and it dripped on her lap. The two mentors Looked at each other, Alana not knowing how to comfort the teen.

The two mentors only stared at the girl. Seline could not blame them. They were all so used to being alone and distant from loved ones anyway. How could they understand that pain when they've pushed those people away in the first place?

Seline's tears kept streaming down her face but her expression went from sadness to emotionless. Alana tried to segue to another topic, "Was her divinity... accommodating?"
Seline nodded, feeling tired. "She was nice... I guess that's all I can share."

"Taking a trip to the celestial plane is quite tiring at first." Alana poured Seline a drink before sitting back down, "But, you will get used to it. The way their world works out there is very different from how ours work."

Seline wiped her tears trying to move on from the topic. "She's quite... moody. I mean she changes her mood quickly." The teen shared. Alana's brows raised in amusement, Oscar sipped his drink, judging. 

Alana spoke after a long pause. "Enough small talk. Seline, since you've met your divinity, I find it high-time to finally give you the guidance you need."

The girl's brows furrowed in confusion, "I thought I was already being mentored?"

Oscar bit on a cookie as Seline's eyes darted to him for answers-only for him to dart to Alana for her to explain. The older woman sighed, "You were being mentored to understand and get a good grip of the basics of your given power."

She started before shifting a little in her seat, "See, we thought her divinity would've sought to talk to you before you've even know the basics, but she has reached out a little too late for one's liking." Alana cleared her throat and Oscar agreed upon her last statement.

"You had to be the one to initiate so this is all very new to us." Alana added.

Seline's brows remained furrowed while trying to piece it all together. "How am I any different from the past pupils you've had?"

"Well for one, again, Dione. She usually does not let her patrons interact with others. Hers also usually die quickly, with very few who've survived 'til retirement." Oscar answered.

"Retirement? That's a thing?" Seline asked, "Yes it is. Only when your divinity has been thankful enough, they will grant you a wish and you may use that wish to live off the rest of your days in solitude with no worries of champion duties or you can think of somethings else." Alana added.

Seline only nodded slowly in understanding. The girl already thought about of performing well to retire. This has all become so tedious.

The room was dead silent again whilst the older ones ate, "Your job," Alana started, wiping her mouth, "is to protect the whole of civilization during the night. Not only that, but also to protect the welfare of women and children." She spoke clearly, "There are worser demons than the human lawbreakers." Oscar added.
