Kate's POV
A half-hour later, we all jumped. I stood with Tris and Christina as we waited to move on to the next part of our welcome to Dauntless. The guy I saw earlier walked to stand in front of us, eyes fixed on the floor before lifting his gaze back up to us.
" Dauntless-born, go with Lauren, transfers stay with me. Go,"He ordered.
Half of our group cleared out, following after who I presumed was Lauren.
" Most of the time I work in Intelligence, but during your training, I'll be your instructor. My name's Four," He stated firmly.
" Four like the number?" Christina asked, raising an eyebrow.
" Exactly like the number." Four replied, unfazed.
" What happened, one through three were taken?" She quipped with a smirk.
" Christina..." I warned, shooting her a look.
Four smiled weakly before his expression turned serious as he looked back at her.
" What's your name?" He demanded, his voice sharp.
" Christina." She answered, her confidence wavering.
Four nodded in recognition before slowly stepping toward her, his movements calculated, almost intimidating.
" Well, Christina," He began, his tone low,"The first lesson you learn from me, if you want to survive here, is to keep your mouth shut. Do you understand me?"
" Yes." She spoke softly, her eyes dropping to the floor
" Good." Four muttered before casting a glance in my direction and turning away. " Follow me."
We followed Four as he led us down a stairway and into the heart of Dauntless. I found myself staring at the back of his neck, noticing black ink at its base. Tattoos? I wondered what they could be.
We came to a ledge overlooking a pit filled with people cheering and talking. I glanced up at the vast glass roof I'd seen earlier, amazed by its immensity. Standing beside Four, with Tris on my right, I looked over at him as he began to speak.
" This is the Pit. The center of life here at Dauntless." He explained.
I nodded, then turned my gaze back down at the lively crowd below—some were fighting, others talking or just watching. It buzzed with energy.
The next part of the tour led us to the dorms. We walked into a large room filled with beds, with a bathroom at the very back. I scanned the room, feeling uneasy about how open it was. This was new to me.
" You're gonna be sleeping here for the next 10 weeks. " Four informed us.
" Girls or boys?" Al asked to my left.
" Both." He replied casually.
" Nice." A boy jokes beside me and I found myself mirroring his reaction.
" You're serious?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
" Deadly serious. And if you like this, you're gonna love the bathroom." He added, his tone dry.
