TW! Irresponsible Drug Use & Brief implication of addiction in the flashback
Martyn was running. He ran from the police, a joyous escape. It was good fun—they didn't know who they were dealing with. How pitifully naive of the new intern on the police force, tasked with chasing after the impossible.
He was running a bit low on food and necessities, so he decided to just steal it from a random walmart. What were they gonna do? They didn't even know who he was! He was transformed and shape-shifted as a buff ass brunet, who was he to be caught with all these advantages? He'd be plain stupid.
Martyn's not had a job in years. He's convinced his brother that he's an engineer who works with computers when in reality he hadn't bothered to go and look for a job after college. He had other things to do; plans. A 9-to-5 job would simply be a waste a time. What did he need the money for? Taxes? He wasn't working nor did he pay the government anything.
He was, legally, invisible.
The male laughed as he lost the police, running through the thick forest that stemmed through a part of Central park. He was well aware of the amount of bodies from passed souls that lied within (the citizens of New York were something else), but Martyn didn't care.
Martyn took a stop when he reached his usual clearing. It was a small enclosed circle where he usually ate his new food these days (you gotta change it up every couple months so the police don't realize you usually head to one spot). He stole some baked goods, a premade chicken wrap, and a new hoodie.
It was lime green. Martyn mainly stole it because it had a cool pattern on its sleeves (and because it was made out of 80% cotton). He quietly ate in the sudden peace, feeling comfortable enough to de-shift and de-transform. "I know you're here, Cleo. You smell like a cig." He spoke out after a while, awaiting his teammate to reveal herself.
"Come on, I swear I haven't had a smoke in a couple days!" Cleo emerged from the bustle, walking towards Martyn. "Brought me anything big guy? Your spot last time was better." She complained, grabbing his bag of baked goods to see what was good to eat. "Just cakes and donuts and stuff. Didn't think you'd want any meat."
Cleo looked up to glare at him, taking a glazed donut to eat. "Oh! Has Bdubs told you yet?" She smirked, ripping off a part of the donut with her hands. "What? Was your mission successful?" Martyn asked, throwing his paper trash carelessly into the forest behind him. He watched as Cleo's grin widened like the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.
"Yeah, and it's gone even better than we planned!" Their plan was to just find the heros together (Bdubs had given them intel already so it wasn't hard) and see how difficult it'd be to pursue with their further more complex plans. Turns out, if their mission went well it'd be easy.
Sure, Scott was in jail but that's easy for him to fix. They hadn't even gone to look for him in jail, Martyn was certain Scott would break out by sundown tomorrow. "Yeah? What happened?" He asked, waiting for Cleo to give him the good news.
"Bdubs found out Lykos's identity! He even snapped a picture with his bodysuit's camera! You might wanna see this, Marty." Cleo transformed and pulled out her phone: It was a picture of a guy. "Joel." He breathed out, Martyn stared with his eyes wide.
"Joel?" He muttered again, thinking about it. What strange kind of revelation is this? "What—he's..." Martyn and their team has had their suspicions these past couple weeks and Martyn noticed the bracelet when he gone to visit but... he's been denying it this whole time.
"No way! I've been working to keep him away from all of this!" Since his parents had 'mysteriously been killed' Martyn worked hard to keep his little baby brother away from the heros. Away from this sort of life! He didn't trust them and yet... Joel was one of them. "Well you haven't been enough. He's been doing this for 13 years! That's basically the same amount of time you've been... well... the Listener."
