The General stayed true to his word. As soon as he led her to his room, he left to camp outside the door, but not before sitting her down on the bed and chaining her arm to the post. Grabbing a sword that was next to her, he headed outside to camp outside in front of the door.
As best as she could, Evaline attempted to unlatch the hook so she could take her hood off. Falling down onto the mattress, she looked up at the ceiling above and put her hand on the wall. At least it's warmer and better than the cobblestone walls in my own room.
What if the King said no? It was hard to tell with her brother, for sometimes he followed in their late father's footsteps or sometimes he didn't. One thing is for sure, they both kept her up in the cage ever since she was five years of age.
Despite these troublesome thoughts, she drifted off into a deep slumber.
In the morning, the slam of the door hitting the wall, jerked her awake. "Rise and shine. Time to go back to the tower."
What? Her heart dropped, then she got angry. "You tricked me! You said I wouldn't go back there!" Standing up, she tried to pull against the bonds but only made the bed move against the floorboards.
Walking quickly towards her, the General put a hand on her shoulder. "No, if I go to your brother, I would rather have him think you were there that whole time instead of sneaking out like the idiot you were. Besides, I also have another plan."
Evaline paused then nodded quietly. Leo sighed and lifted up her hand, inspecting it. "And now they're going to wonder why your wrist is all red and bruised."
"Only because of a certain someone."
"I told you to be a good girl. You're 20, not 2 years of age."
She stuck her tongue out at him, not caring about being mature. It mattered not. Squeaking when he tugged on the chain, Ev felt like a dog on a leash. After finally rounding the last set of stairs, the General gave her a slight push in, but not before unlocking her shackles. Without saying a word, he walked past her and started to dig through her trunk.
"Hey! What exactly do you think you think you're doing?" She exclaimed at the sound of her clothes being rummaged through.
Leo threw one of her 'prettier' dresses at her if one could call it that. The once bright purple color on the small gown had faded into a dark indigo and the gold lace tied around the waist was falling off, clearly showing that it had not been worn for years.
"We're both going. Get into that and do, well, whatever ladies do to get pretty." He motioned with his hands.
Letting out a huff, she said, "Alright, but turn around. You better be a gentleman; I'll assassinate you if you even open one eye."
Evaline started to struggle into the dress. Clearly, she was a young girl when this was fit for her. Expertly she managed to tie the laces in the back but then her face flushed when she felt her waist and bosom. The General turned and his eyes widened. While the outfit was noticeably tight for her, he could not help but admire the beauty that the princess had. The sunlight graced her waist-length, wavy, cinnamon-colored blonde hair. Her sweet violet eyes had a concentrated expression as she pulled on the belt.
