It was small - much smaller than Evaline's room. Mold was forming in the cracks and crevices of the stone, the only stone in the Glass Kingdom, and vines crept up the walls. A bed that was clearly stuffed with hay lay in one corner, had a blanket perfectly made on top.
However, none of that mattered, for there in the corner crouched a young girl holding a book as some effort of defense. Her skin was the color of soil and her eyes were as gold as the rays of light. Her long curly raven hair was many feet long, clearly showing that she had not taken the time to cut it. Never had the two set their eyes on such a person before.
"Who are you?!" The girl questioned. "How dare you enter so forcefully!"
The General stepped forward, "I apologize, Your Highness. We did not intend to harm you in any sort of way. We were just inquiring of who resides here."
'When did he get so formal?′ Ev thought. However, she nodded in agreement and smiled, "I'm Evaline, what is your name?"
She hesitated but then replied, "Sovanna. You're a Starling, aren't you? I thought you died."
"There are many of us still out there though I only recently just found that out. I'm a Princess of Alestia. Also, we thought you had died. We were only following a rumor."
She smiled wistfully and looked out her little window. "So, it has been that long? My brothers and sisters must be dead. Also my Mother. Well, what do you want from me?"
"We're going to get you out of here."
Sovanna's eyes gleamed brightly in the dark room, "Are you sure of that? I bring a lot of bad luck with me. The lust for freedom may ravage me more than I can take. Will you be able to handle my want for revenge?"
Evaline nodded confidently, "Let us leave, right now."
The girl took a heavy breath and then rummaged through a chest, pulling out two bottles and a necklace, "I must change my appearance then." Once pouring the liquid onto herself, her ebony strands became a honey-blonde and baby blues replaced her extraordinary yellows. Stepping out of the prison, a wind seemed to wrap around her, blowing her hair back. "A magic-induced cage. Those bastards will pay for keeping my powers at bay," She gritted out.
The two felt the anger radiate from her immensely and it rattled them. Could this be the ability of The Inherited, shaking someone off their feet? They headed off, running as fast as they could back to the entrance of the castle to retrieve the bag. Night had descended and it was obvious that there would be more guards for that shift.
The Princess gasped when she heard many footsteps start to come closer, none recognizable - guards. In the beginning, it was normal for a maid and knight to be walking around but at night? That would just stand out. They had no time to leave as well. Whipping her head towards Sovanna, she whispered, "Lean against the window." The girl listened immediately, crouching down and pressing her back as best as she could beside the window.
Evaline took a deep breath and squeezed Leo's wrist, making him turn around, "I'll explain later so pardon me." Before he could ask what she meant, she pressed her lips against his, their bodies blocking the girl in sight. 'Were his lips supposed to be this warm and soft?' She never expected them to be. Perhaps in her stages of fury and anger, the thought never crossed her mind. Why did he taste so good? This was just unfair. She gasped slightly when he pulled her closer and brought his large hands down to the curves of her waist. Instinctively, her fingers moved up and tangled in his thick dark locks, causing him to groan. Her heartbeat thudded loudly in her chest; it was as if he wanted to kiss her. Shaking it off, Ev pulled away and they both breathed heavily. She tilted her head to the side to listen then whispered, "They're gone."
