Day Twelve: a Friend from Work (Gibbs)

Or: The one where Selena Garcia drags her best friend home for the holidays with her, Just to find her twin sister in her living room

Selena Garcia was born the first of a set of identical twin girls on August twenty-ninth 1977. Until the two hit puberty, it was nearly impossible to tell Selena and her sister Penelope apart. That all changed when their interests and personal style diverged from one another. While a teenaged Penny wore dark, brooding fashion, Lena stick more to the conventional. Penny's self-taught skills on electronics weren't at all shared with her twin. Lena had to have Penny help her hide texts and pictures she had received from the various boys who were nursing crushes from their mom and step dad.

In her sophomore year, Lena received a cheer scholarship that would completely pay for her tuition at Virginia State. Her boyfriend at that time broke up with her for this reason, stating that he should be getting a scholarship for his grades as opposed to her getting one for her 'fake' sport.

College acted as the firs time Lena and Penny had ever been truly alone. Not only were they on two different paths towards their future, They were at totally deferent colleges. While Penny was able to life at home, Lena's scholarship required her to move into the sponsored housing for the cheer team. Most of the cheer team were only using college as a way to keep cheering. Their gameplan (no pun intended) was to get picked up by a professional sports team and cheer for them until they were no longer 'marketable' as a cheerleader, at which point most were going to settle down and be a has-been housewife. Lena, instead, chose a challenging program and used all of the time she wasn't practicing to pull dean's list levels of good grades.

The death of their parents thrusted the twins back together like magnets. They clung to each other so much that both were a breath from being dropped form college. While Lena did let that happen, Penny, who felt a personal responsibility for the death, couldn't bring herself to care.

For years after that, Single word texts every so often and a thirty-second call to wish each other a happy birthday once a year were the only forms of communications the twins shared. Their busy adult lives just seemed to pull them away form one antoehr. But, the distance didn't harbor any ill will. They were both just too busy for an idle chat most of the time.

After a few not-so-legal choices, Penny ended up on the FBI's radar. She was caught and offered two options. Jail or a job. She chose the latter option. In a weird twist of fate, federal law enforcment had actually been Lena's end goal. But, she wanted to try and track down terrorist. The only job offers her qualifiers could get her were all at NCIS. So, she would be tracking down crimes based against the marines and navy instead. YAY for seconds options, I guess.

Despite her initial sadness over not getting to work for ICE or the FBI's terrorism division, Lena grew to love NCIS and all of her teammates. And, there were a few occasions that she did, in fact, get to track down terrorist. Granted, they were usualy home-grown terrorists, but po-tay-to/po-ta-to.

Through it all, Lena became scarcely aware of one thing...her boss was incredibly lonely. He didn't seem to have anyone outside of the team, no matter how much he tried to slyly convince them otherwise.

It had started as a joke or jest here and there. By the time either of them realized their was any weight behind the teasing's, Gibb's hands were already on Selena's hips in his kitchen. What followed was a secret relationship full of loaded innuendos, sexual tensions, and a very physical means of relieving those tensions.
