( interlude scenario )
after having to deal with a crash landing caused by a surface-to-air missile, as well as legion ambushes on two occasions from which you got out of, once you passed ranger checkpoint anders by the coast, you felt a wave of calm hit you at once, as you entered friendly territory. from here on in, you wouldn't have to worry about legionnaires ambushing you anytime soon, so you were well on your way to the destination on sparrow's snowmobile. even from a great distance you could see the imposing structure ahead of you.
the citadel. this is the base of operations for the rangers. all soldiers who come in and out of glacis go through here, including fixers. it is standing proudly on the side of a steep cliff in a mountainous terrain, accompanied by a long valley that is used as a safe passage, avoiding any legion-controlled missile sites by flying below their radars. the citadel itself stands as the last bastion of hope for the rangers, when the first wave were overwhelmed. the free legion knew about this base, but to them... it was always out of reach.
upon passing through one of the massive gates of the citadel, you headed inside the compound, it was already a commotion of chatter everywhere. the first thing you could see was a team of rangers and fixers hopping inside some of the armored personnel carriers and move in a convoy out of the base. whatever happened, it must've been something urgent, while some of the platoons were currently being trained how to adapt to the conditions of glacis to another side, while another group was offloading crates from a VTOL cargo airship, perhaps a new batch of supplies came in.
but you didn't come in for any of that. once you had your business sorted first, you then went for orientation around the citadel, since this will be your temporary home for the time being. as you were brought over to the man using the moniker 'chimera actual'. you heard that callsign when sparrow was calling the citadel on your way in. you went to the main tower and took an elevator, ascending all the way to the top floor until you and skye reached the front of the office, knocking on the door, only to reveal a grizzled man, looking over towards the window at the base below them. at first, he seemed rather intimidating - slightly unkempt dark brown hair, short beard, and blue eyes that would chill you quicker than the cold itself. he was like a lion, ready to pounce at the first sight of vulnerability, as well as the one responsible for running the show in this 'icebox' he refers to as glacis. though appearances sometimes deceive, as he was intimidating if needed be, but the way he spoke, and the way he acted, you could tell that he wanted to end this war just as much as his men, but he also needed to stay strong for his troops, to be their guiding light during their moments of doubt. he questioned why you didn't follow the escorting interceptors, pointing out that by not rushing, this incident wouldn't have happened, but what has happened, happened and was glad that you were brought back in one piece.
this man was lieutenant general tormund, the man who proposed the "chimera initiative" to be rolled out, who arrived with the second wave of rangers. you two introduced yourselves, and after discussing the matter with the legion and the crashed ship, you were given a rundown as to how things work around here, as well as a strategic map laying out borders, points of interest, movements and activities, all updated in real time. you were also given directions to talk with various other staff who you might come back to every once in a while in between missions, either for needs or overall just hang out.
there are many people with important functions for the base, but the most important ones would be the head of the infirmary, mission coordinator, armorer, or even some crew member that may be paired up with you and skye depending on missions. the base has a lot in store for you, so you might want to take some time to get used to it, such as the remainder of the day.
before you started to look for the others, sparrow offered to show you the quarters, which was located inside what looked like a housing area. first she brought you to a specific building and then headed towards somewhere in the middle floors to a certain door - it looked like this was your room from which its key has been given after the orientation. upon opening it, it looked more like a suite with a low-light ambience, it was as if these were the sleeping quarters of a ship. everything felt cozy. she then told you that she doesn't sleep up here. instead, she'd sleep in her ship docked at the bay down below the surface.
that being said, it was time for a quick look-around! where do you start?
you...?
