Merlin's Pov

I looked to the place I was leaving, it was where I had lived all my life. However it was never a home.

When people talked about going home, they talked with such love in their voices and smiles on their lips and happiness in their eyes. He did not feel that way going back to the families that would pass him around.
He doesn't ever remember feeling that way.

He could not blame them though, it was nog their fault that he had no home. He understood, he really did. They had families to feed and with a limited amount of crops from the harvest, he was just another mouth that needed food that would have been theirs.

He knew he was a burden, he hated that he was one but long ago he had learnt that he couldn't change that but he could help.
So to atone for his sin of orphanhood he worked the field but with limited food he couldn't build enough muscle to really help.

I had always been thin and short, I could never be sure if it was just the way I am or the lack of food over the years.

As I had now become 16, I knew it would be best to leave as I knew they would no longer take care of me. It broke my heart just a little. I knew I had never truly meant anything to anyone, it was one thing to know it but an entirely different one to see it.

So I left, it would take 2 days to reach Camelot. I was aware that my worn boots would likely fall apart on the journey but I had nothing else. My top had small holes and tares. The trousers were also just a little too small. But I started the long journey to Camelot.

I smiled as I saw a lovely blue butterfly flap it's gorgeous wings. It landed on my nose causing a giggle to burst free. A red one soon joined it and instead decided to land in my hair, I giggled again. I had always found butterflies to be beautiful creatures.
Their feet tickled causes me to smile, I held out a finger and the blue and red butterflies landed on it.

They started with me for several hours before I set them in some stunning flowers in the forest. I couldn't help but pick a small bluebell and tucked it behind my ear. I walked through the forest and into a peaceful meadow with flowers of every colour and smell.

The sun began to set and this would be the perfect place to set up camp, it was peaceful but not silent as the buzzing of insects and the sound of the wind shook the flowers.
The moon was high and full as I closed my eyes.

I slowly peeled my eyes open as the sun cast light onto the meadow, though pretty at night. It shone in the morning sun's raised and was breathtaking. I ate an apple from my pack and enjoyed the sun as it assessed fully to the sky.

With a loving smile, I walked through the meadow careful as not to damage the flowers. I walked for hours and as I got closer to Camelot I began to see carts drawn by horses and donkeys. As I crested the final hill, I got my first look at the kingdom that I would one day call home.

It sprawled out and was grand. My smile grew as I drew near and heard new sounds, took in the new smells and tried to manoeuvre between the crowded roads.
