Ju-na walks into the sick bay where the gangster is resting. She looks over his body, looking at all his bruises, cuts and scars. A large burn wound is on his face and she wonders how he got it. Hearing his breath lighten she realises he is going to wake up, so she turns towards the door. It would be weird if he woke up to her watching him, she didn't want to be known as a creep and a stalker.
Hearing a sound halfway between a croak and a groan she stops. Turning around she noticed the man was looking at her shoulder again. Earlier that night she had looked at the piles of laundry in the laundry room and had found her father's jacket from when he had done his military service. It still faintly smelled of him but had many pockets, perfect for her knives and stolen sweets.
"You." The man whispered to her, causing her to walk beside him. He slowly raises his arm, pointing at her shoulder. "Why aren't you hurt?" He asked her in an accusing tone. "I wasn't hit by Yun-jae." He scoffed, sitting up in his bed. "Bullshit. I saw you get smashed by his hammer." She nodded, before sighing. "So, you're turning?" She shook her head, "I'm not going to turn, at least for as long as I can hold out." He laughed gruffly before shaking his head.
"That's what they all say. 'I'll be the one who doesn't turn, I'm stronger than my desires." She stares at him, thinking about his words. If the monsters were born from human desire then what was her desire? Was it to protect her sister or herself? And if it stems from desire, then the people left wouldn't have any wants or dreams, how unfortunate.
"I can't turn. I'm like Hyun-su." He stares at her before laying back down, tired. "Who knows?" "Just you and Hyun-su." He nods before closing his eyes. "What's your name gangster?" "Sang-wook." She nods, before leaving the room seeing an unfamiliar person watching them. "Nice to meet you." Ju-na nods politely towards her before walking away, in search of breakfast.
Looking into the nursery her eyes widened in surprise at seeing two children sitting together. Walking into the nursery she smiles as the girl stands up, pulling her brother with her. "So, you two are the new survivors? I must have missed you coming in." She looked at the young girl around Kim-ra's age. "Are you the girl Hyun-su was talking about? He said she had a sister who was my age?" "Yes, that's me. My name is Ju-na, what's yours." She smiled at the girl. "My name is Su-yeong," she turned to look at her brother. "This is Yeong-su, my brother."
The young boy looked up at her shyly, holding a dinosaur. "Su-yeong and Yeong-su, interesting names. Well, it's nice to meet you." She held out both her hands, waiting for them to shake them. They both grabbed her hand, the boy not letting go. "Can we meet your sister?" She smiles at the girl before shaking her head sadly, "No, she turned into a monster." The girl nodded understandingly. The young boy looked at his sister smiling, "Su-yeong can be your sister!"
She laughed, ruffling his hair, "and you can be my brother!" Reaching inside her pockets, she pulled out two bars of chocolate, which she had grabbed from the store yesterday. "Here, don't tell anyone, but I got these from the convenience store." She winked before handing them each sweet.
"Now go find something fun to do, sitting in this room all day won't help you grow strong." The two nod at her, leaving the room with her. She heads to grab breakfast, looking for her friends. "Hey Ji-su, what's your rating on today's breakfast?" Her friend rolls her eyes at her, before finishing her riceball. "Absolutely wonderful! You know we get even less than a spoonful now since five more people came." "Five? How do I not know this?" Ji-su shrugs, putting her whole rice ball in her mouth, puffing out her cheeks.
"I don't know, when I looked at you you were knocked out cold. I actually think you were dribbling a bit." Ju-na laughs, hitting her friend across the table. "I was not drooling! You must have been way too tired!" Ji-su looks up thoughtfully before nodding her head, "Yeah I was tired, your snoring was keeping me up!" "JI-SU." She throws a balled up piece of cracker wrapping at her while she laughs with tears in her eyes.
"My desire to throw your head inside a toilet might make me turn!" "Then what? Would you be a drooling monster or a snoring monster?" Ju-na gasps, reaching into her pocket. "I do have a chocolate bar I was going to give you, but I think I'll keep it now." Her friend instantly stops laughing, grabbing her hand, looking very sincere. "I'm sorry, Ju-na. Did I ever tell you that you look very beautiful today?" "Get fucked Ji-su." She pulls out her middle finger from her pocket, flipping Ji-su off. "You hag!"
Ji-su stands trying to grab her from across the table causing Ju-na to stand and run away. The girls chase eachother out of the room, causing others to laugh at them. "Get here you dog!" "Careful, there are children around!" A large slam causes Ju-na to stop running and turn around. "Fuck, ouch!" She bursts out laughing to see Ji-su on the floor in a heap. "Are you," she wheezes trying to control her laughter, "okay?" "Do I look okay?" Ju-na falls to the floor snorting, grabbing her sides.
"You just...ate shit." She reaches out to Ji-su who grabs her, pinching her arm. "What did you trip over?" She looks around and sees a very shocked Hyun-su sitting on the ground. "YOU TRIPPED OVER A PERSON YOU FUCKING IDIOT!" Ju-na let out a hyena of a laugh, trying to stand but failing miserably. "SHUTUP!" Ji-su yells at her, curling into a ball. "I can't..."
She cackles at her friend before standing up. "Here." She holds out her hand which Ji-su reaches out to grab. "Not you twat, you can get up on your own. Hyun-su, let me help you up." "You bitch!" Ji-su grabs her legs causing her to fall on her face, a centimetre from Hyun-su. Rolling over, she looks at Ji-su trying not to laugh.
"Hey, Ji-su?" "Yeah?" "How was your trip?" "Come here!" The girl laughs as she rolls away, into Hyun-su. "Hey Hyun-su. You doing okay? It must be tough having an elephant fall over you. Lucky you can heal." "When I get you!" She looks over to see Ji-su crawling towards her, looking murderous.
"Protect me Hyun-su! Go monster on her!" She crawls to sit behind the boy, who still looks confused. "Hey, not fair, you can't use the monster card." "Sorry, I already did it. Can't go back now." Ji-su sighs before grinning. "Jae-heon, come here! Bring your sword too." "Hey, you can't use the priest with a sword card. That trumps my move."
Hyun-su gives her a disappointed look causing her to look down. "Sorry Hyun-su. It doesn't trump you." Jae-heon runs over, holding his sword taking in the three people on the ground. "What's wrong, Ji-su?" "Stab Hyun-su." "Woah. That escalated." Jae-heon looked between Hyun-su and Ji-su, still confused. "Okay stop." Still hiding behind Hyun-su, she holds up her hand. "Truce?" Ji-su nods, before grabbing Jae-heon's hand. "Jae-heon, shake Hyun-su's hand." Grabbing her friend's arm, Ju-na put's out Hyun-su's hand for a shake. The two men shake hands, looking at the women in question. "Okay, Ju-na, we're all good now?" Ji-su stands cautiously, putting her hand out. "Yep." The two girls shake hands.
Ji-su grabs her, pulling her closer, "COME HERE YOU RAT!" She ruffles her hair while Ju-na struggles against her. Letting her go she sighs contentedly. "Okay, I'm good now."
