I spent detention with Lockhart that night and I honestly couldn't think of someone worse to spend the last few hours of the day with. They decided to separate me Harry and Ron for our detentions, and of course I was the unlucky one that had to spend it with Lockhart. The stuck up man had me helping him with his fan mail, and it disgusted me reading some of the letters.
Lockhart went on gloating almost the whole time, though I wasn't really listening. In fact I was half there at all, every time I tried to pay attention my mind wandered back to Malfoy. And as much as I didn't want to think about him one bit, he made being at Hogwarts far less enjoyable. I remember being excited during summer to come back to how well I'd left things here, just for him to press the reset button on everything. I wasn't sure if I wanted to be involved with him anymore if it would be like this every year.
"Potter, aren't you ever so lucky. Can you possibly imagine any better way to serve detention?" he begun again, after a few moments of silence. I silently rolled my eyes as I quite frankly rather be doing anything else right now. "Fame is a fickle friend Potter. Celebrity is as celebrity does. Remember that," he spoke, and I turned to frown at him.
"I'm not a celebrity," I snapped.
"I know it's easy to think that way in my presence, being so popular in the book and appearance industry, but you and you're brother are world famous with wizards and witches, surely you know that," he explained, continuing to respond to a fan girls letter.
I guess he wasn't wrong, it was clear me and Harry were well known, and I expected it as my mother had brought me up telling me I would be when she opened me to the wizarding world. But I don't class that as celebrities, celebrities earn their fame, they want the gold and the awards and the fans, me and Harry simply are known for the tragedy of our family. I wouldn't say that counted for us to be on the same page as say Celestia Warbeck.
I scoffed and turned away, as entertaining this conversation would only frustrate me more. My skin was crawling in the classroom, the air felt muggy and everything was irritating me. I supposed that was part of the reason why I thought I'd imagined it when the walls started talking to me. It started off as a hushes whisper, I could make out what it was trying to tell me but it felt like it was coming from all sides of the room.
"What?" I whispered, narrowing my eyes as I looked around me slowly.
"Hm?" I turned to see Lockhart had lifted his head from his letter staring at me confused.
"Didn't you hear it?" I asked, frowning around me still.
"Seems you're getting a bit tired, Potter. And my lord no wonder, we've been here nearly four hours!" he exclaimed, packing up some of the bits I was doing. "You're free to go now
Nikola." I stood, feeling slightly drowsy for a second. I stared around the room and decided I probably had just been over-worked. I was on my way to the great hall when I bumped into Harry.
