ROMERO

Aida fell asleep at some point in the car - around the same time her siblings fell quiet after she'd scolded them for arguing over an online order.

I gazed at her for a few moments after parking the car, scowling at the way she seemed worried and like she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders even in her sleep.

I rotated in my seat and looked at her two younger siblings. "Okay you two get out of the car," I spoke quietly, careful not to wake her. "I'll get your sister."

Natalya cringed and Ivan's eyes widened. "What?" I asked them in the same quiet voice I used earlier.

Ivan opened his mouth to speak but Natalya spoke before he could. "She doesn't like being touched let alone carried by people she doesn't know - especially when she's asleep," her eyes narrowed on me. I arched my brow at her holding her stare.

"Are you suggesting I leave her here?"

The blonde scoffed. "No, I suggest you wake her up and let her walk by herself."

"What happens if I carry her?" I asked them as I unbuckled my seatbelt and was greeted with complete silence.

I groaned.

"Guys come on," I looked at them through the rearview mirror. "Work with me here."

"She'll hurt you," Ivan said quickly and Natalya shot him a look and huffed before she got out of the car as fast as she could.

She knocked on my window a moment later, her scarf pulled up to her nose as she tapped on her phone with one hand. Her hand moved up and down and I realized she wanted me to roll the window down.

"Why thank you, your Majesty," she mumbled before she scrolled a bit more and opened some photos.

She raised the screen and showed me a picture of a handsome man - maybe a bit older. Her finger swiped on the screen and another man came on, stitches holding half of his face together.

"Who's that?" I asked, keeping my voice down and my tone flat despite the curiosity egging me on.

Natalya placed her phone in her pocket.

"That's what happened to the first man who touched Aida."

"Yeah but you showed me a different man in the first picture."

Psycho Barbie smirked. "It's the same man, brother in law dearest. The only difference being Aida's knife."

I couldn't help the smirk that lifted my lips at the thought of Aida burying her knife in my skin.

Natalya rolled her eyes. "Yeah just like I thought," she mumbled as she walked off in the direction of the front door.

I turned to Ivan who saluted me and jumped out of the car, jogging after his sister - leaving me alone with his eldest one.

My eyes roamed over her sleeping figure, her hands clutched together in her lap and her eyes squeezed shut like the worst that could happen was happening in her dreams.

I gently ran my fingers over her arm, the material of her burgundy blouse surprising me with its warmth. I frowned. Aida still looked cold.

I opened my door and ground my teeth at the bite of the cold against my skin as I rushed over to the passenger side, praying to whatever Aida believed in that she'd let me carry her inside with no arguments.

Opening the door as quietly as possible, I had luck as I unbuckled her seatbelt, my hand grazing her side. No movement or reaction from Aida. My hand went to her upper back and I leaned down, prepared to support her from under her knees as well.
