[THE NORTHERN SHORES]

It was around 7 in the evening and raining quite harshly, with huge dark grey clouds looming over the island and its surrounding ocean. Just off the north east shore of the island, 3 fairly small wooden boats were floating through the wavy, rough waters. In one sat Jennifer and her friend Melissa. The boat was dragging a medium sized fishing net below it which was catching whatever was small enough and in their path.

"Of course we had to get out here when the storm rolled in, just our luck." Melissa complained as Jennifer manoeuvred the boat.
"Yeah, if only we had the technology to build ourselves actual boats, or if we even just gave this little pieces of shit a roof. But noo, thats a waste of recourses, meanwhile we have houses on brontosaurus' fucking backs." Jennifer joined in on the complaining, in a joking matter as they both laughed afterwards.

"Yeah, Aaron still has a fair bit of growth to do as a leader, but im sure he will get there one day. I mean, we have been working on those motorboats for a while now. We have yet to find any success with that, sure, but were making progress. If only we waited till those were done to come out here."

"Well in all fairness, who knows when that will be. That could still be a year away, and we cant really wait a year for food and those silica pearls the others are collecting."

What they failed to notice however, was a massive shark fin somewhat nearby, slicing through the surface of the water as it circled the raft from a distance.

Whilst they were out in the ocean, a team of 10 divers were in full scuba gear. The team included Ryan, James and Lucas. They were going to be diving into the depths of the ocean to gather silica pearls for electronics. James looked over at Ryan with a slightly nervous expression as going to the deep ocean was always on his "fuck no" list, but as they were beginning to run short on people, there wasn't many other options. Ryan of course missed the look because of the scuba masks, but he could tell his friend was worried.

"Don't worry mate, if something goes wrong on your end just flash your light, with how dark it can be down there one of us could see it from a mile away." He tried reassuring James, who just have him a slight nod in response.

"Yeah, if anything is to kill you it'll most likely be the pressure, which would be pretty quick." Lucas chimed in which did nothing to help. "But don't worry, it shouldn't be that bad we won't be THAT deep. Well ehhh, we'll see what happens."

Lucas' failure at comforting just added to James' fear, but nonetheless when the others began to step into the waters, he did as well, one step at a time.

Once they were fully submerged underwater, Ryan looked up at the surface, and watched as the tiny raindrops battered it, before turning and looking back down to the deep, dark depths, feeling like he was about to enter hell and never come back.

He was shitting bricks, but knew that they needed this now more than ever. It had been 4 years since their grand battle with the megapithecus, and in the past year or so, food and resources have been on a constant decline, which was resulting in people either starving or not having the resources to protect themselves.

Until recently they had believed that most, if not all silica pearls had been collected by this point, but after a few washed ashore on the north east coast, they figured it would be the best place to look for more. It wouldn't help with the low food situation, but it could help in continuing to advance their technology enough to get off the bloody island.
