Chapter twelve

"Midsummers."

The next day, Juliet was sitting at home in the kitchen, still in her regular clothes even though she was supposed to be getting ready for midsummer but after her day with John B and kissing him, she didn't feel like going out in front of a bunch of people and showing off her relationship with Topper and pretending like it's still gonna happen, as her sisters Sarah and Weezie walked up to her "whoa, your hair isn't done and your not even dressed." Sarah mentioned "wow, I see your eyes are working." Juliet told her, as Sarah and Weezie walked around her "well it's midsummers. You've been talking about midsummers since last year. You have a date, remember?" Weezie asked her.

"Ohh, right, with my mechanic, I forgot. Oh no, no, wait. I don't do that anymore because a weezil stuck her nose where it shouldn't be and told my boyfriend who then told my father all of my secret business. So now I remember who my date is and how painful it's going to be thank you Weezie." Juliet told her, as their step mother walked in "Juliet's not going."  Weezie mentioned, as Rose chuckled "the hell she isn't." she said, turning to her "your father is being coronated as guardian of knights of the rhododendron. You're going." she said, as she walked around them.

Juliet then chuckled "yeah, okay, let's not forget that your just with my dad for the money." she said "whatever." Rose said, as she turned walking out, passing their dad "your daughter says she's not going." she said "um.." their dad as Weezie sighed "she's off Topper, JoJo." she said, and as she did, Juliet turned to her "I'm gonna literally kill you." she told her, looking to Sarah "both of you." she added on "Sarah, Weezie, please. Go." their dad told them, as the two began to walk out "thank you very much." he told them, as he looked Juliet "what's going on?" he asked.

As Juliet took a deep breath "I never wanted Topper to be my boyfriend, dad, let alone my husband." she told him chuckling "and I thought it was just cause we were kids but then we grew up and he thinks he can tell me what to do, who to hangout with, what to order when we go out to eat, how to think, it's suffocating. And walking out with him in front of a bunch of people and making them all think I'm still happy and in love with him, isn't right!" she voiced, as her dad walked around the table "well, it sounds to me like you should probably dump his ass, maybe, hmm?" he asked her "well seeing as you arranged the marriage, I thought I'd talk to you about it first." Juliet shared.

"Maybe just not tonight, though. Maybe you could, I don't know.." her dad was saying, as Juliet sighed "daddy, I just don't wanna go there with him or even be near him." she told him "I know, I know. What if you just paced on a smile and you go, and we have a good time alright? And you deal with your love life mañana? Please." her dad told her, and when he did, Juliet smiled "on one condition?" she asked him, and when she did, her dad furrowed his brows.

Having made it to midsummers, Juliet would be lying if she didn't say she wasn't at least tipsy, because the condition she made with her dad was that she didn't have to be a sober going to or at the party, where everyone was clapping as their dad and Rose walked through followed by Rafe, Juliet, Sarah and Weezie, they waved to everybody and as Juliet went to go grab another drink, Topper grabbed her arm "hey, Juliet." he told her and when he did, Juliet turned to him with a forced smile "I waited on you. You said you wanted to walk in together." Topper shared "but that was before Topper. I wanted to come with my dad." Juliet told him.

"Can we talk for a sec?" Topper asked her, making Juliet laugh "we're talking now." she told him, as he then grabbed her wrist hard and dragged her off "ow, Jesus christ. Man handle much?" she asked, as Topper let her go "hey. How's it goin?" he asked her "I don't know, Top, I'm kind of thirsty. Can you get me a drink? Since you clearly will never ever let me get one myself?" Juliet asked him, and when she did Topper scoffed "look I'm trying to be nice, okay? I mean you look beautiful." he told her "thank you." Juliet told him, remembering how her father said to put on a facade although the liquor in her veins was making it hard.
