KIARA

She knew that her mom being home wasn't a good sign. Normally, she tries to avoid being in North Carolina as much as possible.

Something was up.

Kiara hopped off the last step of her stairs and saw Anna drop her purse on the kitchen island.

She looked tired.

"Hey mom." She walked up to Anna and embraced her with a hug.

"How was Bora Bora?" The brunette smiled.

"Good, thank you for asking." She started flipping through the pile of mail on the counter. "Listen, I'm going out with a couple of friends tonight, will you be okay by yourself?" She didn't make eye contact with Kiara and continued looking at the papers.

"Um.. sure, I might hang out with a friend too."

"Oh that's nice honey. Don't stay out too late, it's a school night." Anna placed her hand on Kiara's shoulder before walking upstairs to her room.

"It's Saturday." Kiara whispered to herself confused.

Weirdly, she started to feel something she hasn't felt in a long time.

Hunger.

Not eating for 18 hours plus loads of vodka can do that to you.

Hesitantly, she opened the pantry, scrounging for any food they might have.

Of course, nothing.

Her dad only has his meals at The Wreck since he's there 7 days a week for 15 hours. She can't imagine the last time one of them has gone grocery shopping.

'No food for me then.' She closed the pantry door.

It had been three hours, and Kiara was lying on her bed watching Ginny and Georgia.

Her stomach started to hurt so she ran to the bathroom just in time. She threw up and started breathing heavily. Then again. And again.

Was her mom ever going to check on her?

After about 30 minutes of sitting on her bathroom floor, she got up and made it to her bed. She grabbed her phone before sitting down and called JJ.

'Is it bad to say I miss you?' He asked.

She smiled at the sound of his voice. 'Is it okay if I come over?'

'Yeah. Do you want me to pick you up?'

'It's alright, I'll be there in a few.' She rolled off of her bed and hung up.

She pulled up to his driveway by 4 o'clock and he was already outside waiting for her.

She got out of her car, without closing the door, and gave him a huge hug, making him lift her off the ground. "I should've escaped out the window with you." Her voice muffled against his sweatshirt.

"What the hell happened when I left?" He gently put her back down.

"My mom couldn't have left faster after she got home, not caring about how I've been for the past month, then I spent half an hour puking my guts out."

"What?! How do you feel now?" He placed his palm on her forehead.

"Better now. But for once I actually felt hungry." She took his hand off of her.

"You hungry now?" He started walking to the front door.

"I guess a little..." She walked behind him.

"I'll make you something."

"You don't have to." Kiara shakes her head.

"I want to."

"I mean my head kind of hurts from the amount of shots I took last night. Eggs would be good if you're offering."

"Oh I'm offering." He opened the door for her.

"Well okay then." She practically skipped into the kitchen.

Kiara happily finished a plate of eggs and two cups of water, including three Advils.

She fell asleep watching Ginny and Georgia on JJ's laptop curled up next to him as he played with her hair. Which, might be her new favorite thing.

She used to hate when people touched her hair but with JJ, it's different.

"Hey JJ." She said half asleep.

"Shh, go back to sleep." He continued stroking her hair, as he watched the show.

"Thank you for everything."

That was the last thing she remembered saying to him before she fell asleep.

JJ

JJ eventually fell asleep as well until he heard a glass shatter.

Luke was back.

Shit.

"Kie." He shook her a little, trying to wake her up.

No response.

"Kiara." He shook her again.

"Hm?" She rubbed her eyes.

"We have to go." He pulled her out of his bed.

"What's happening?" She started to get worried.

He lifted one of his windows up. "Nothing we just need to leave. I can get your stuff for you later."

He helped Kiara get through the window safely, then he heard slamming at his door.

"You have your keys right?" He hopped out the window.

"Yeah." She rubbed her arms uncomfortably.

"I'll drive."

"JJ what's wrong?" She looks at him when they get in the car.

"My dad's back." His jaw tightens as he steps on the gas pedal.

They drove for what felt like an eternity. Once they got to her house she didn't want to go inside. She knew no one was home.

"You're coming too right?"

"I wouldn't leave you." He opens the door and jumps out of the car.

Relieved, she unlocks the door and they go to the living room.

"What do you think your parents would do if they walked in on us making out?" He flopped down on the couch.

"Probably wouldn't notice." She sat down next to him. "Don't you wanna talk about what just happened?"

"Nope." He turned on the TV. "This Hunter guy is a real douche." He changes the subject.

"It's okay if it bothers you."

He looks at her. "Look, it happens all the time it's not a big deal." He looks back at the TV.

She turns it off trying to get his attention. "I'm trying to talk to you about this."

"And I appreciate that but really, it's fine."

She rolls her eyes and lays down on her back on top of him. "I don't think it's fair that you help me through all of my shit but I can't help you through yours."

He wraps his arms around her and kisses the top of her head. "I promise to tell you when something is bothering me."

"Good enough." She turns the TV back on.

I have a pretty busy next two days but I'll try to post either tmrw or Wednesday. I'm not sure if this story is getting boring because I enjoy writing it but not that many people comment on it. Give me some ideas on how to make it more interesting!! - M
