I pace the length of my room while biting my nails. I can't decide if I want to do this or not. Do I need to? But then how else will I keep Bentley from changing his mind? I can't go back to how things were with Jason.
I refuse.
I take a deep breath to calm my nerves and force myself to leave my room. It's now or never.
The worst he can do is turn me down.
Well... he can also kick me out...
I stand in front of his door, my feet shuffling from side to side as I try to muster up all my courage.
It's fine.
You've done this before, Beatrice.
It can't possibly be worse than how it was with Jason.
I slowly knock on his door with bated breath.
Silence.
I can't hear anything, so I knock again.
I hear a bit of shuffling before the door pops open.
As expected, Bentley is half-naked with just his pajama pants on.
My eyes trail his hard-earned muscles in appreciation.
He's fit.
He looks down at me in confusion. "Everything alright?"
"Can I come in?" I ask, taking a tentative step forward.
He furrows his brows but nods and opens the door wider for me to slip through.
I sigh in relief and walk in. At least he didn't turn me away at the door.
I walk into his room and look around at the spacious area. His bed is large and covered in a light grey thick fur comforter that I'm certain has to feel amazing to sleep in. He has a little office area on the side where his desk sits in front of the window, with a bookshelf sitting next to it.
I go to sit on the edge of the bed and watch Bentley close the door and run a hand through his hair.
"What's wrong? Did something happen?" He asks as he approaches me.
I shake my head and ask what I've been dying to know. "How long can I stay here?"
He pauses, not expecting my question. "As long as you want?"
"But why?" I stress. "Why are you being so nice to me?"
I'm not stupid enough to think that there's no ulterior motive. No one would ever be this nice otherwise.
"I don't know what to tell you, Bea," He says. "I just saw a woman in need and wanted to help."
I shake my head, not believing that answer. I know he wants something. I can feel it. I don't even mind if he wants something from me. I'm willing to give it if it means I get to keep staying here. I don't want to be discarded.
I meet his confused gaze and grab the thin straps of my nightgown to pull them down until my cleavage peeks out.
Bentley's eyes widen and before I can continue stripping, he rushes forward to grab my hand.
"What the hell are you doing?"
Despite my racing heart, I look him straight in the eye and challenge him. "Is this what you want? My body?"
He looks at me like I'm crazy, eyes glued to my face, as if looking anywhere else will scorch him. He tries to act unaffected, but I can see it.
The way his Adam's apple bob as his eyes darken.
