Lena pulled away from Kara's lips. Her initial wave of relief turned to disappointment.

"You're not her," Lena uttered, despair momentarily overcoming her. She slunk down at her desk, gripped her drink, and gulped it down. She needed a stiff drink before she addressed whatever it was that stood before her, friend or foe. Either way, she was in control of the situation, or so she faked. "Just who are you, then?"

Kara was still reeling from the kiss, but she had forced herself to regain her footing and focus on the moment.

"Lena, I'm Kara from another universe here to help save Supergirl and Superman. Will you help me? The Lena of my world-my Lena-helped me get here. She's my best friend and-"

"Your best friend?" My Kara is the love of my life, and also my wife," Lena interjected.

"You're w-wife?" Kara could not help but blush at this revelation. She glanced at Lena's left hand and noticed a wedding band made of meteorite.

"And she's currently on the fast track to being obliterated by the sun."

"Who did this?"

"They call him Blackout, ironically of course. He's held Supergirl and Superman captive for weeks, harnessing their powers, supercharging and simultaneously poisoning them with Kryptonite so he can use them to wipe out the solar system."

"Never mind the solar system, this will destroy the universe and send shockwaves that will have consequences for all earths, including mine. And that's why I'm here."

"Then we must surely stop him."

Supergirl took a step toward Lena. "And if you're anything like the Lena from my world, I know you're already on it." She smiled softly at the woman she knew so well and yet didn't know at all, a reassuring gesture which was contagious enough to elicit a relenting smile from Lena.

Kara studied Lena's features. Lena's long black hair was pulled up in a ponytail, accentuating her exquisite bone structure. Kara had always admired Lena's beauty, but she did not stop to consider how Lena ignited a quiet storm in her body, the kind that she had suppressed so successfully for all of these years.

Lena also gave Supergirl a long look. She was exactly the same in every way. Same beautiful blonde hair and pouty red lips, same idealistic determination in her big blue eyes. But she was not the same. This was a different person. Seeing this Supergirl only made her more determined to save her wife. She stood up.

"I am on it. I've been designing a super suit built to withstand not only kryptonite but also fly in space. It was tailored for my wife, but I assume it will also fit you perfectly."

"And let me guess, I'm going to have to go to space to defeat this Blackout."

"You're going to have to fly into the sun, or damn near close to it."

"Are we going to acknowledge the fact that nothing can withstand the sun's heat?"

"You're right. Not indefinitely, anyway. The suit will allow you four minutes, give or take. But if you get swallowed by the sun, then Blackout will have three Kryptonians for the price of two."

Kara felt a lump in her throat but swallowed it along with her fear.

Lena added: "By the way, I'm coming with you."

"That's way too dangerous. If anything happened to you, I'm sure the Kara of this world would never forgive me."

Lena raised an inquisitive eyebrow. "Oh? And why do you say that?"

"B-because," Supergirl blushed deeply. It was too much to hide from Lena, who gave her a knowing look. "Because if she cares about you as much as I care about my Lena-and apparently she does, even more so-then trust me, I know me."
