Lena awoke first. She was lying next to Kara, watching her lover in a serene sleep. For someone with super senses, who could hear a pin drop five miles away, Kara slept deeply, apparently undisturbed by the world she had worked so hard to save every day.

Lena wished she could say the same for herself. Her mind never shut off, even in sleep. The world's problems weighed on her, gilding her with guilt of carrying the Luthor name and the harm the name had caused. And so, she was determined to do right by the world.

But it was more than that. Lena had always felt like an outsider, even in her family, not learning that Lionel was her biological father until a few years ago. As such, as a child and well into adulthood, she felt she had to constantly prove herself, to earn her name.

Lying next to Kara, it occurred to Lena that she didn't have to do that anymore. She no longer needed to prove anything to anyone. What truly mattered was that she had the power to make the world a better place. And because she could, she would.

Even more so, she felt it was her responsibility and calling, as did Kara. The possibility of what the two of them could accomplish as partners—in more ways than one—was nothing short of spectacular. They would be the ultimate power couple.

This realization made Lena shiver; it was coupled with possibility for the future and a lingering fear of losing what she now had. She had lost Kara once; she didn't want to endure losing her again. And if she did, at least she lived bravely in love for a time. To do that, Lena would have to unravel the walls within herself so as not to push the one she loved away, something she was used to doing to protect herself. And perhaps that would truly be her hardest challenge-loving and fully allowing herself to be loved.

She had reflected on much of this the previous night before rushing off to Kara's loft at 2:30 in the dark morning. And through her meditations, she had also arrived at another related revelation about her brother Lex, a revelation she planned to address that day.

Kara opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Lena's handsome face and furrowed brow deep in thought.

"Mmm good morning beautiful," Kara said.

"Morning gorgeous."

"You look like you got a lot on your mind."

"Always."

"But it's too early to think."

"It's 10:30," Lena said, motioning toward the clock on the wall.

Kara chuckled. "Okay true, but we didn't get much sleep, so..."

Lena blushed as memories of the previous evening, or rather early morning, flashed through her mind. Her body became flush thinking of the way Kara had lifted her up as they made out, after she had already gone down on her and before Kara reciprocated.

Kara leaned over and kissed Lena passionately, and heat once again mounted between the two women as they pressed their bodies skin to skin underneath the sheets. They were both breathing heavily, and Kara was ready to have morning sex, when Lena pulled away.

"Kara, I have to go. I have to do something."

"Oh, um, okay," Kara said, not hiding her disappointment.

"No, it's not like that."

"What is it then? Was it me? Was I not, you know... did I not satisfy you last night? Wait. Oh my god, did I hurt you?" Kara sat up, immediately catastrophizing the situation.

Lena also sat up and planted a lingering kiss on Kara's lips.

"No, darling. Last night was wonderful. We made love for hours... if it was bad, don't you think I would have said something sometime around hour two? And how was it for you?"
