Tony could barely concentrate on the road. The Audi cut through traffic like a bolt of lightning but his eyes kept straying to Kindle in the seat next to him. She was wearing a cream and gold gown and from the second she had walked down the stairs he had been speechless.
It wasn't flashy or slinky but it was perfectly Kindle. She would never be the woman in the glitzy dress showing miles of leg and cleavage. The bodice hugged her high breasts and showed just enough that Tony briefly thought about canceling the plans and packing her upstairs. The over skirt and shoulders of the gown were sheer white with intricate golden roses and skimmed her slender figure.
She had left her hair down in the back but curled it around her shoulders and the only jewelry she was wearing was a simple pair of Gold and Pearl drops. Tony was reasonably sure they had been a Christmas gift from his mother the first year he had brought Kindle home with him from school for the holidays. Maria Stark had adored Kindle immediately, treating her like the daughter she had never had and Howard had, like always, fallen into place with his wife's decrees.
Maria would be proud of the woman Kindle had grown into. Strong, fierce, intelligent, and stubborn enough to tell Tony when he was wrong. Tony briefly wondered if she could have predicted how her son would fall madly in love with the little genius who came from nothing but knowing his mom she had probably know all along.
Tony pulled up in front of the event and hopped out of the car rushing around to open her door before the valet could. Her hand fit perfectly in his and he stood there staring down at her.
"What?" She smiled up at him.
"I don't know if I said it already. But your beautiful."
Her porcelain cheeks flushed pink and Tony tucked her hand into his elbow. "Come on. Let's go crash my party." She laughed into his shoulder and Tony was only vaguely aware of the flashing of cameras from the paparazzi.
A random woman in a revealing black dress tried to catch Tony's attention. "Hey, Tony, remember me?"
"Sure don't." He replied never looking at her making Kindle smirk and lean into his arm and grab his hand possessively. "You look great, Hef." Tony patted the grey haired gentleman in the red velvet coat on the shoulder.
Kindle glanced back. He looked familiar but she couldn't place him and he gave her a little wave as Tony escorted her down the red carpet. Kindle returned it with a smile as they approached Obadiah who was talking to a reporter.
"What's the world coming to when a guy's got to crash his own party?" Tony jokes.
Obadiah grins at them both. "Look at you. Hey, what a surprise." Obi pats him on the shoulder and leans in to kiss Kindle's cheek which she allows, willing to let bygones be for Tony's sake.
"We'll see you inside." Tony tells him and Obi stops them and whispers.
"Hey. Listen, take it slow, all right? I think I got the board right where we want them." He advises.
