I closed the front door behind me and let out a sigh. I kicked off my shoes and trudged to the kitchen. I set my school bag down next to the entryway. Today was such a long day and with Elena acting the way she was, it pissed me off. I opened the pantry to look for a snack before hearing my dad call out, "Hey honey how was school?" He idled into the kitchen and gave me a quick kiss.
"It was boring, like usual," I mumbled. He let out a laugh at my attitude, "Wow I bet." I smiled a little at his joking tone.
"I'm heading to Boston tomorrow. I cooked a few things and put them in the fridge alright?" Whenever my dad went on his business trips, he always cooked for me so I wouldn't have to buy fast food.
My mood instantly lifted at the thought of his cooking. One of my love languages was food and iced coffee, so I was thrilled.
I opened the fridge and beamed as I spotted different combinations of meats, vegetables, and rice.
"Thanks, Dad," I hugged him and grabbed the book bag I set on the floor. I headed upstairs to my room and lay down on my comfy bed with a groan. Maybe if I closed my eyes for a bit, I could have a quick nap.
I slowly closed my eyes and entered a daze.
A shrill ring snapped me awake and I yanked my phone out of my jean pocket and looked at the screen.
Elena popped up on the screen and I huffed. She better be calling to apologize. I answered my cell, "Hey, what's up?"
Elena's sheepish voice sounded, "Hi. I'm sorry about earlier but I did it for a reason." I rolled my eyes at her lame apology. "Whatever, if you're not going to actually apologize don't bother."
"Oh no I didn't mean it like, sorry. Let me explain," Elena rushed to explain exactly why she was acting like that, and by the time she finished, my jaw dropped. The whole idea of the sacrifice was terrifying.
"Oh Lena we are so fucked," I whispered in shock.
"I know," She whispered back.
"I'm sorry for being so mad, I think it's my period or something," I chuckled and I heard her light laugh.
"I just still don't get how I fit into the curse. Tyler, Caroline, and you are all the people needed and named so we know what to look out for. But what Klaus wants to do with me scares the shit out of me," I murmur.
Elena paused before replying, "Katherine seems to not know more than Rose did. It has to do with your bloodline, both of them confirmed that. But why? You're not like Bonnie with her witch bloodline or like me as a doppelgänger. I'm worried that we'll find out when's it too late Lola."
I sighed, running a hand down my face and smudging my makeup. "Me too, Lena."
"Listen, I'm gonna go over to Stefan's tomorrow and try to talk with Rose. I need to see if she'll take me to Slater to get answers."
"Isn't that too dangerous, Lena?"
"Dangerous is my middle name," she joked causing me to snort. "Yeah right, Elena fricken' Gilbert being risky." We both burst out into giggles.
"Well if you come with me, it's way less risky," she offered. I thought about it for a moment. Hanging out with my best friend and my vampire kidnapper. What a fun time.
"Okay, I'll come with you. Only to keep an eye on your scheming ass," I warned and heard her snicker as a reply.
We both said our goodbyes before hanging up.
Stefan's warning flitted into my head. I want you to stay out of this Willow, you're only human too.
My stubbornness would not let me just sit back and watch my best friend get sacrificed. I wanted to help however I could to avoid that from happening.

The next morning, Rose picked me up in her black SUV. She seemed different now like she actually regretted what she did to us. I took the olive branch and offered a hello with a smile.
Elena hugged me in greeting and then we were on our way.
After about an hour, Rose parked in an underground parking lot right under an apartment building. We all went up the stairwell and found ourselves in front of an apartment door. Rose starts knocking on the door, "Slater? Slater, it's Rose. Open up!"
She paused before saying, "He's not home. Sorry."
I rolled my eyes at her tone and Elena snapped, "Mm-mm. No. We didn't come all the way out here for nothing."
Rose huffed before kicking the door open with a bang. We went inside slowly, looking for anything out of the ordinary.
It was a super nice place, tastefully decorated. I wandered around before hearing Rose call out, "I don't think he's gonna be much help."
Elena and I glance at each other before we rush towards the tall vampire.
Slater's staked body lays on the wooden floor. Elena gasps as I mutter, "Oh shit."
I look at Rose and see her sad expression before she grabs his body to put it elsewhere.
A shiver runs through me before I glance at Elena already heading to the desk filled with papers.
Elena murmured, "Looks like whoever blew up the coffee shop found him and killed him for his information."
Rose and I both walk up to Elena and watch her.
"Yeah, probably to stop him from helping people like us. The guy was a vampire almanac. Knowing too much information just bit him in the ass," Rose crossed her arms.
I huffed and went to sit on the comfy-looking couch. All of a sudden, the thick curtains are pulled back to reveal bright sunlight streaming through. Elena was the only one who voiced their concern. "Tempered glass. U.V. rays can't penetrate," the tall vampire explained.
I watched as Rose looked out the window wistfully, "I used to just come here and watch the day."
Sympathy rose in my chest and I frowned at Rose, feeling bad about this whole situation.
"We're sorry about Slater, Rose," I murmured. Rose just nodded and asked, "Any luck?"
Elena shook her head, brown strands flying. "It's password protected. I can't get in."
Rose huffed and replied, "No, this is fine. Let's just go."
Out of nowhere, a rattling noise rang through the room. We all froze, and we watched as Rose went to investigate the noise.
I inched closer toward Lena before we heard a girl's voice cry out Rose's name.
The two of them come out with a girl hanging onto Rose, crying. "He's dead!"
