They couldn't speak about it as Li Ming promised, because they woke up to Heart's phone vibrating and shaking the whole mattress. It was Heart's mother calling to let him know they were coming over to Bangkok for a few days because of a job-related event Heart's father had to attend. They wanted to take Heart out for lunch and they were already on their way to his dorm. Yes, it was that late when they woke up.

Li Ming was wide awake with horror. He hurriedly put on his clothes and gathered his things before making his way to the door. But Heart caught him by the arm before he could make a move on the door handle.

"Li Ming, wait for a second," he said.

Li Ming turned around to see Heart's alarmed eyes. "Yes?"

"You will... call me, right?"

Li Ming looked at him for a second. He then took the hand that was holding his arm between his two palms. "I will," he tried to sound assuring.

"You'll call me every day," Heart insisted.

"Yes, I will call you every day, if that's what you want."

Heart gave him a small nod but he didn't look completely convinced. "Okay," he said.

Li Ming smiled, knowing he had no other choice but to show Heart he was telling the truth through his actions. It seemed like nothing was going to work on mending his heartbreak except for constant attention from Li Ming.

But right now, he didn't want to risk getting caught by Heart's parents in their son's dorm room, with the bed hair and all.

He glanced at the door for a second but turned back again. "Oh, Heart. One more thing," he said.

Heart looked up, blinking.

"Don't tell your parents about me, okay? My uncle doesn't know I'm here. I don't want him to hear about it, yet."

"Yeah, don't worry."

So Li Ming reached over and put a hand on Heart's nape, pulling him down gently to put a small kiss on his lips. "I'll see you later, then," he whispered.

The corners of Heart's lips curled up for a small smile. "Okay," he breathed.

With that, they separated.

And that 'later' was really so much later than any of them expected.

Heart's parents decided to stay longer and they wanted Heart to stay with them most of the time. They traveled around the city and visited some relatives, always taking Heart with them. They even insisted on having their meals together with him. So, the only time Heart was able to leave his parents' side was when he was at school.

Which meant, it was the only time Li Ming could speak to him too. They texted a lot but they could only speak on the phone once a day, and that was only for a few minutes between Heart's class breaks. They couldn't see each other, not even once, after that day almost a week ago. Li Ming knew Heart was getting impatient with the situation, he was eating up every word Li Ming was uttering during their calls and every text Li Ming sent was seen in a matter of seconds. Li Ming could sense his uneasiness and couldn't help but feel the same, but at the same time, he was glad that he had some time to think about everything.

He felt like he was getting buried under so many overwhelming emotions, that his brain couldn't catch up with them all. His heart was sprinting on the empty roads, while his brain was following it with a walking cane in hand, not even trying to do its best. Li Ming wanted to make sense of everything, understand everything, and take it all in slowly. He wanted to take his steps with logical decisions, he did want it, but it was too damn hard when it came to Heart.
