Evelyn knocked on the door of the old house. When nobody answered she unlocked it and stepped inside. Her ex-husband was sitting on the couch and drinking a beer.
"Jaxon Presly, Sasha is...is gone, she had to be put down because you did not give her her medication. She was old and you did not care for her!" Evelyn said angrily.
"Oh whatever, Mr. Gregory says I need to send him more money, I ain't getting enough money from them racing dogs! Tiger was my prime bloodline, now Sasha is dead as well! And Falcon...he had only a limited time here but he decided to run off with that white bitch! Then Brandon had to take him back. I ain't getting any pups from Tan or Snowy now."
Jaxon ranted as his fists became white with rage and his face became red. He lifted the bottle of beer and threw it at the window. It smashed and Evelyn ducked.
"What will you do now? Silver will have pups in a few months, what will you do with Snowy?" Eevelyn asked nervously.
"I'll sell'er if she don't have any pups, I'll sell'er or shoot her!" Jaxon snapped.
"You mustn't be that cruel! Jaxon what you are doing is animal abuse! Do you not understand?" Evelyn said.
"Selling 'em would be better," Jaxon shrugged. "I'll keep Jack, Silver, and Tan, and get rid of the whippet. Then Mr Gregory can have his damn money!"
Evelyn walked to the back door. She had lived in the house with her daughter seven years ago. She thought it would not be a good place for her daughter to live in. So she left and remarried her husband Corbin. But she still visited her ex husband to help look after the dogs. Why can't the lazy asshole look after himself and his dogs? He's too busy breeding his race dogs and gambling on horse and greyhound racing. The horrible bastard!
Evelyn walked out to the dog cages and inspected each one. They were dirty and the dogs looked hungry. So Evelyn found a bag of dog biscuits and poured them into a bowl before giving one bowl to each dog.
Since they were in the cages none of them fought. Evelyn patted Silver and scratched her chin. She then thought about how she could save the dogs. Before Jaxon sold them.
"Jaxon, your dogs are hungry, have you let them run?" Evelyn asked her ex.
Jaxon looked up at her from the couch. "What do I do about it? And no, I haven't let them run, but they're dogs they don't care."
Evelyn felt rage burn inside her. "A load of bull dust that is!" she said.
"You know what?" Jaxon raised his voice as he got up and walked to the kitchen. He splashed his face with water before shaking his head and going to grab his coat.
"Where are you going?" Evelyn asked.
"To see a man about a dog," was all the man said before he put the coat on and walked out the door.
Evelyn watched him leave before going to the backyard again. She wondered what he was doing. Maybe he was going to Mr. Gregory's house to talk about the races. Jaxon wasn't getting enough money from his job. Evelyn brought two dog leads and clipped them onto Jack and Ice's collars. She then led them out of the gate and to her car.
They went to a dog park not far from the house. It had bars and a sliddy thing that human children were going down. Snowy barked in excitement. She and Shadow were let off the lead and they ran around, jumping in excitement. Evelyn sat down and wached them. They were happy to be outside were they could run and do whatever they wanted.
"Those your dogs?" an elderly man came up to her and asked.
"No, they belong to my ex, he...doesnt look after them so I have to sometimes," Evelyn said.
"Agh what a shame, they look like real race dogs," the old man said.
"They are race dogs, my ex-husband races them," Evelyn replied. She said with a bit of regret in her voice.
The man raised his eyebrows. "The white one looks like a dog I had for a short while, she unfortunately was taken along with her mate. I was a hunter but the damn cunstable and his officers took my land away and my dogs. They said I ain't alloud to hunt anymore because I'm taking too much, which is bullshit! I can hunt whatever I want and I only hunt what I need to eat. never hunted a young animal, but they still took my dogs away."
"Hunting seems like a cruel sport no offence, I don't agree with hurting animals. But I am sorry your dogs were taken," said Evelyn.
"No worries, I never hunted more than I needed anyway. Always fed my dogs the best," the old man sighed. "Well...Goodbye ma'am, have a good day," he tipped his hat and walked off.
Evelyn smiled as the kind man sauntered off. She sat down on a bench and called the dogs over. They ran to her side and sat down, earning a scratch under the ears. Then Snowy saw the man and got up. She started barking, wagging her tail. But he did not hear her.
Evelyn leashed the dogs and led them out of the park. Back to the house.
