I started the book on 14, 12, 23, and it took me ten days. Today is 24, 12, 23.
I wanted to write this book because I was inspired by a book called Escaping The Yard. Which is about a female dingo looking dog who is taken to a yard of fighting dogs. The story is about how she tries to escape and survive in the Yard.
I was inspired to write a story about another sport which involved dogs. And I know greyhound racing is not such a cruel one, some of the races abuse dogs. So I decided to make Born to Race.
It captures the life of the race dogs and how they are treated in training and on the track. A dog is injured or killed on a race track every day. And 17,000 to 18,000 greyhounds are killed each year.
Facts About The book
Shadow and Snowy's names were originally going to be Twilight and Jasper. Then I decided to change them to Jack and Ice because of the racing names.
Sasha was always like a mother to Shadow and Snowy. She, Tan, and Tiger are the original race dogs in the yard.
It was hard to decide how many dogs there should be and what genders.
This book has 16472 words.
Falcon is still in the shelter because of his aggression and trauma. He is aggressive to little dogs and male humans. But he will be rehomed soon.
Shadow and Snowy get adopted and go to a loving family. While Tan and Smokey are still waiting in the shelter.
