The dogs were let out of their cages later that day. It was beginning to get colder. Snow was falling on the grass and dirt of the dogs' yard. The sky was growing dark as well, which worried the dogs.

Snowy was still sad about Falcon leaving. She was frustrated and lonely. But she was still thinking about escaping. There was a chance they could get out and be free. Falcon would want that. Shadow and everyone else would want that.

Snowy looked at the fence and thought of something. They could dig a hole to get out. A hole big enough to fit three two year old dogs, a whippet, and two adult dogs.

"Why don't we play a game or something?" Shadow asked as he padded over to her side.

Snowy's attention snapped to her brother. Who gave her a warm lick and a nuzzle.

"Shadow we can escape! I have a way, if we dig through the fence we can squeeze out," Snowy wagged her tail.

Shadow lowered his ears and muzzle, "I'm tired of trying to escape," he said.

"What? But we have to! We could have one last chance, all of us could get out. Don't you want to?" Snowy looked at him with surprise.

Shadow sighed and looked at the fence and walked over. He began digging, dirt flying behind him. Snowy joined in and they worked together to make the hole big enough to fit through.

"What's going on?" Tan asked, letting out several raspy coughs.

"We're digging a hole to escape the yard," said Shadow.

"Right, so you are going to leave me here? And Tan?" she asked.

"No! Of course we will bring you both," Snowy barked.

"Tan should go, but not me, leave me here it'll be alright." Sasha shuddered as she coughed again.

Snowy was crestfallen, upset that she might have to leave the only dog that liked her apart from Falcon and Shadow.

Silver, Smokey, and Tan walked over. Their tails wagging excitedly. They barked excitedly as Snowy kept digging the hole. Her heart was pounding at the thought of escape.

"Where will we go once we escape?" Tan asked.

Snowy stopped digging to think. She had not thought of that. Maybe back to the hunter? Or we could find a home in the town? Shadow, Silver, and I could go live in a human house and Tan would live where she wanted to. Or would they stay together? Like a pack?

"We should go live in the woods! Or maybe a good human will find us and keep us," Shadow said.

"I ain't leaving Sasha," Tan growled. "We were the original racing dogs of this yard."

"Well then we will go and you can stay," said Smokey. "You're just like Tiger! Too cowardly to run."

"You're the coward here Smokey," snarled Tan as she crept closer to the whippet. "And Tiger is a good race dog!"

Snowy remembered how prideful and dominant Tiger was. Once Tan had gone in heat, he had bred her. But that was the only time. Now Tan was angry and missed her mate. Even though he was Sasha's true mate.

"Then come with us!" Smokey barked.

Tan growled, "Not if Sasha isn't coming," she said stubbornly.

A car skidded to a halt in the driveway. Tires squeaking on the gravel. The dogs froze as The Boss got out of the car and walked towards the sidegate.

Snowy immediately kept digging until the hole was big enough. She ducked down and squeezed through. But The Boss grabbed her collar and yanked her out. Screaming something before pulling Snowy and Shadow into their kennels. He then grabbed Tan and Silver and put them in kennels also.

The women appeared at the gate and entered the yard. She started arguing with the man before going over to Sasha and picking her up. The Boss waved his hand in a dismissive manner and let the female human take the she-dog away.

The Boss turned to the dogs with fury and screamed at them. Then he stormed out of the yard. Snowy cowered back in fear. Shadow tucked his tail and trembled. Tan was growling but only out of fear as well.

"He won't let us out anymore now, it's over." Silver whined as she pressed close to the wire between her and Shadow.

The Man came back and was in the yard laying bricks along the fence until dusk. He covered the hole with bricks before going back inside. Now they could not escape again.
