The van pulled up at a building with two glass doors. The humans took the dogs into the building and led them down to some kennels. Snowy looked around nervously. Dogs were either sleeping or standing up and watching the newcomers. Shadow pulled back on the lead, feeling afraid.

"What's going on?" he asked.

"I don't know," Snowy whimpered.

The man holding her lead bent down and stroked her gently. Reassuring her with his voice.

"I think he's trustworthy," Snowy lifted her tail and licked his face. Feeling slightly safer.

The men led them to two cages and put them inside. They gave the dogs food and water and there was a bed in the corner for them to sleep on.

"Are we gonna live here forever?" Shadow whined.

"No," a big black and white dog barked. "Hopefully you will be adopted, most of us get adopted."

"Why are you not adopted?" Snowy asked.

"Because not all humans want an old pitbull like me. You see that female dog next to me, she is my mate. We came here together, our pups were adopted but not us," the old dog barked again. "You two youngins will probably get adopted, your lucky."

Snowy listened to the old pitbull's words. She had a chance of living in a good home. With kind humans and with her brother. She looked around at the other dogs. They were hopeful too.

Several days passed and still nobody adopted Snowy or Shadow. An elderly couple came and adopted the old pitbull. He would be a perfect match for them, but not two young greyhounds. Snowy missed him, Shadow seemed to get over it. He missed Smokey, Snowy assumed, and realised how she missed Falcon.

Snowy wagged her tail as two people approached her kennel. She and Shadow had been in the kennels for six weeks. Every day they were taken outside to sniff and do their business. Before going back in for some food and water.

It was a way better life than before. Before when they were locked up and not ever let out of the yard. Except to race or go to the runs.

The boy and girl smiled and spoke in a friendly tone. They knelt down to take a closer look at Snowy. The she-dog wagged her tail and tried to lick them. Shadow whimpered, trying to get their attention. The girl went over to Shadow's cage and patted him through the wire.

'Would you like that one Michael?" the boy's mother asked.

"Yes! And the white one too! I saved that dog at the races mum, before uncle Amon came and scolded me for letting two dogs get out. She and her friend ran away but came back," Michael said.

The woman sighed, "I know you wanted to protect the dogs but you didn't have to make Uncle Amon mad," she said. "Alright we can get both," the childrens' mum added and went to the front desk.

"We would like the white one and the black one please," she told the receptionist.

"Alright, they are both four hundred dollars," the older woman said.

A man opened Snowy and Shadows cages. The dogs were confused until they got to the front desk and the leads were handed to Michael's mum. The two children cheered and the dogs jumped up to lick their faces. Wagging their tails in excitement.
