Chapter 8
Adeline
Was he laughing at me, and he didn't want to be mean and tell me? God I am so stupid why do I like him? The grin disappeared from his face as he looked over and saw mine gone too.
"What's wrong?" He asked as he turned off the tv.
"Nothing I'm fine, it's just... no I'm fine" I replied as I got up and walked towards the door.
"Adeline" he called out as I twisted the handle. The handle didn't move, and the door didn't move as I pushed on it. I froze immediately, has he tricked me into falling for him so he can kidnap me? He knew I was acting weird and was just waiting for the right time to lock me here and hurt me. Now he knows my mum doesn't care about me he knows no one will come looking for me and he can do whatever he wants. I heard him get off the lounge and walk over to me, I flinched as I felt his hand touch my shoulder and shivers ran down my spine.
"Adeline, you can't go" he said softly, tears blurred my vision as I thought about what he was going to do "it's not safe for you, do you know how worried I am about you? Someone could have just opened your car door and hurt you so easily" the tears filling up my eyes stopped, and I can't tell if I'm scared or relieved "you have a bed here to stay in, food, water, somewhere safe. I'll take care of you I promise" my body relaxes a bit and the tears sitting in my eyes begging flowing as he hugs me around my waist. No one has ever cared for me like this, I've never had a safe place to stay or anyone to care for me.
We sat on the lounge for a while waiting for our food. The tv played quietly while I sat against one end of the lounge. Something is wrong but I can't put my finger on it, we have always hated each other but the way he speaks to me is different. It's almost as if he is pitying me. He got up off the opposite end of the lounge and sat down next to me.
"Can we talk about that big scar on your arm?" He asked quietly. I shook my head unable to speak and trying to avoid eye contact. Someone knocked on the door and he sighed quietly before getting up from the lounge and walking to the door. I took this chance to go upstairs and look around for any possible exits. I could hear the chattering end and the door close; I ran to the bathroom and locked the door behind me.
"Adeline?" I heard him yell out before walking up the stairs. Who knows how long he will keep me locked in here. I need to find a way out. "Adeline?" He called out again. I'm sat at on the bathroom floor against the wall terrified for what will happen if he finds me. Sit down and tuck yourself in. I put my head to my knees as I heard footsteps getting closer, I flinched as I heard a knock on the door. "Dinner is here when you're ready" he said before his footsteps faded away.
I stayed in the bathroom for another five minutes before I cautiously made my way down the stairs. He wasn't in the lounge room, so I poked my head around the corner, and he was sitting at the table waiting for me to come down. I sat down as the opposite end of the table and admired the food he had ordered. There were two bowls with spaghetti bolognese and shredded cheese on top. There was a glass of water and some beautiful silver cutlery either side of the bowls.
"You need to eat it's been over twelve hours" he told me. I was honestly shocked that he was concerned about it. I left no time to waste and ate it like it was my last meal. "When did you last eat?" He asked me, scared for my answer. I stopped eating and paused for a moment to decide wether or not I should tell him.
"Lunch time yesterday" I replied quietly.
"What did you eat?" He asked softly again.
"A sandwich" I replied quietly. He shook his head in disapproval. I continued to eat and as he sat in silence.
We sat quietly for a while before he asked, "is it because you don't have much money?" I nodded knowing I shouldn't let him know this. He is just going to use this against me. We finished dinner and he washed the dishes before he came back into the lounge room where I had relocated myself to.
"You should go to bed we have school tommorow' he insisted. I got up and walked towards the door to go to my car. "Where are you going?" he questioned me.
"To my car?" He shook his head and walked upstairs. I stayed in the same spot until he came back into the lounge-room holding a pillow and blanket.
He threw them onto the lounge before telling me to come upstairs. I followed him up the stairs after the feeling of fear suddenly left me. I followed him into his bedroom, and he stopped in the middle of the room.
"Sleep in my bed" he demanded softly. I stood frozen for a second before he walked out of the room and closed the door behind him. I finally had some time to take in the features of my surroundings. There was a soft dark blue rug sitting on the polished timber floors, he had a basic rectangular desk that had been painted brown. My eyes scanned the rock band posters scattered around his room before I laid on his bed and fell asleep wondering if he would make me stay here forever.
