Chapter 2
Adeline
I woke up to my phone going crazy, receiving messages from numbers I didn't know, I put it on silent and tried to sleep for another hour before I checked what the messages said.
The light of my phone blinded me in my darkened room as I opened the first message... I felt my stomach flip as I read the messages asking about Matao. Are you guys going out? Why did he hug you? I thought he hated you. We're you sitting with Matao at lunch? There were about thirty more messages like these, but I just wanted to ignore them all. I scrolled down to find a message from Avery, I clicked on it and sighed. She knew we hated each other so she is probably confused as well. Me and Matao have hated each other for so long and it was like a mutual agreement, but does he actually hate me?
I eventually rolled out of bed and got ready for school. As usual mum had already left the house and I walked to school down the same long road I do every day. I was about halfway to school when my phone vibrated in my pocket, I pulled it out and my feet stoped when I saw it was a message. I opened my phone, and it was a message from Matao. I knew he had my number, but he had never messaged me before, so I just figured he forgot about it. How are you? I started feeling nauseous but in a good way. Great he just had to jump out to try ruin my day but this time it didn't work. I feel like I wanted him to message me. I guess your phone still works I replied. I continued walking and got past one house before he sent another text. It does and I can message you on it too. Great. Lucky me i sent back.
He had still not responded by the time I arrived at school. I walked through the gate and towards the glass doors at the front of the school, I walked through the door, and I could see so many people looking at me. I looked at the floor as I walked towards my locker, but I could still feel their eyes on me. I continued walking to my locker without looking up, I had basically engraved the quickest route to my locker into my brain. I got to my locker and ran into a hard body, Matao. My stomach flipped as I remembered what happened yesterday and hope familiar but strange his chest felt. I stumbled backwards and my eyes shot straight up as he chuckled.
"Are you alright there clumsy?" He joked.
"I'm fine" I mumbled as I regained my balance.
"I really am sorry" he said sympathetically which actually shocked me.
"It's fine, how'd you get my number" I questioned him.
"I have my ways" he replied confidently "Adeline, are you ok?"
He actually sounded like he meant it he seemed deeply concerned. This made my heartbeat faster, what is wrong with me? Does he actually hate me?
"Adeline?" He repeated my name.
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine sorry just had a moment I'm ok" I replied quickly.
"Adeline don't lie"he said cautious to upset me again. I rolled my eyes "I'm serious, I know you and you don't seem ok".
"Yep, because you know so much about me"I replied sarcastically. All of a sudden, I was in his arms again, and he held me tight. I looked up at him and he seemed speechless. I didn't want to ruin the moment with the tears forming in my eyes, so I just pulled him in even more.
