It was Christmas time in the Frostbourne. The Frostbourne was the perfect winter wonderland where one might expect to find Santa. The place felt festive all year round but during the holiday season when all the decorations came out made it even more stunning. Everyone loved Christmas and this year despite the war going on was no exception. The Frostbourne's annual Christmas tradition of creating their own version of the 12 Days of Christmas was taking place in the town square. Everyone was invited to join in whether they were citizens of the Frostbourne, diplomats, travelers or alike.
The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. Lord Patrick had only just managed to grasp hold of everyone's attention. "I would like to thank you all for participating. I know times have been tough lately which is why this year's Christmas tradition is very important. Let's not let the enemy ruin our moral and especially Christmas. We'll show them just how strong and determined we are which is why we'll win this war!" He announced to which everyone cheered loudly in agreement.
Finally the cheering die down so Lord Patrick spoke again. "Good I'm glad you all agree. Now we can begin." He exclaimed and before he had time to take a breath the whole square began singing at the top of their lungs. "On the first day of Christmas the fates bestowed on us..." the crowd fell silent as they tried to think what to sing for the next line. Seeing Lance perched contently on a wooden barrel observing the event from his vantage point, it gave all 4 of the Endstone Crusaders the same idea. "...an ender gorf sitting happily!" They shouted together.
According to the rules of the tradition whatever anyone chose to say for a line would have to be accepted no matter how crazy things got. Thus the song continued much to Lance's embarrassment and he was now scowling. "On the second day of Christmas the fates bestowed on us..." the crowd sang before taking another pause. "Two dragon tamers!" A number of people yelled. "And an ender gorf sitting happily!" the crowd finished off before carrying on.
"On the third day of Christmas the fates bestowed on us..." The crowd sung but this time was only followed by a short pause since almost everyone then shouted "Three warring realms!" before everyone joined back in. "Two dragon tamers, and an ender gorf sitting happily! On the fourth day of Christmas the fates bestowed on us..." Lance insanity screamed as loud as he could in his gorf form "Four Endstone Crusaders!" before looking at them with a smug grin for getting back at them. Kane was not amused however the other crusaders didn't seem to mind.
"...three warring realms, two dragon tamers, and an ender gorf sitting happily! On the fifth day of Christmas the fates bestowed on us..." everyone chanted. The wait was much longer this time since it was much harder to think of 5 something. Mummers came from the crowd as everyone tried to think of something that would work. "Five Nether challengers!" Maya said as she remembered hearing news about the Nether princess having to face 4 of them to prove herself to the Horde and thus there were 5 challengers for the throne.
Even though most people didn't know what Maya was referring to they liked the idea of screaming that line in a battle cry and continued singing. "...four Endstone Crusaders, three warring realms and an ender gorf sitting happily! On the sixth day of Christmas the fates bestowed on us..." sang the crowd. "...six of Azura's inventions!" Lord Patrick said looking over the square at Lady Azura who looked away from him briefly to try and hide the fact that she was blushing.
"...five Nether challengers, four Endstone Crusaders, three warring realms and an ender gorf sitting happily! On the seventh day of Christmas the fates bestowed on us..." everyone was getting more and more enthusiastic each time but their singing worsened each time however no one care since they had been having so much fun. A long pause fell upon the gathering when they attempted to find something for the seventh day. Then all of a sudden Ciara screamed "Several hundred deaths!" as she very cleverly changed the word seventh to several. The whole town went quiet as everyone remembered the friends and family that were no longer with them this Christmas. Kane shoved Ciara with his elbow because she had mentioned such a sensitive subject but Ciara just shrugged it off.
Luckily a number of people decided to break the awkward moment by finishing the rest of the verse since it would be breaking the rules if they had chosen something else for the seventh day. "... six of Azura's inventions, five Nether challengers, four Endstone Crusaders, three warring realms, two dragon tamers and an ender gorf sitting happily! On the eighth day of Christmas the fates bestowed on us..." Commander Hilda had already had an idea for the eighth day and she had whispered it to Agatha and Vimir who told the rest of the foot soldiers it and so they all shouted together. "...eight major battles!"
A number of people hesitated to say the next line but the majority chose not to let Ciara's thoughtless comment get to them. "...several hundred deaths, six of Azura's inventions, five Nether challengers, four Endstone Crusaders, three warring realms, two dragon tamers and an ender gorf sitting happily! On the ninth day of Christmas the fates bestowed on us..." As scouts Lyria and the rest of the elytra corps knew their geography off by heart so it wasn't a surprise that they knew exactly how many territories were in the Overworld. "...nine Overworld territories!" They all sang in unison.
Siphon smiled a disappointed smile and shook his head since he suspected that they must have spent a lot of time memorising their geography instead of doing something more important. Although he would never admit it, he was slightly jealous of Captain Lyria the elytra corps since the newly formed division would always get more attention and credit than the archers since they were far more useful it seemed in battle. This greatly annoyed Siphon at times and he would always secretly try to one up the elytra corps, which is exactly what he did today. He carefully spoke to his soldiers so that they all knew what to say for the tenth day.
"On the tenth day of Christmas the fates bestowed on us..." The crowd finished for their usual pause and that's when all the archers heart-fully yelled "ten main fractions!" They were pleased with themselves at the sight of the elytra corps' annoyed faces. The elytra corps then huddled together as they tried to think of the next line. Realising that they had just caused an unintended competition, the archers also gathered round as they tried to outcompete the elytra corpsmen. While they discussed the next line, Nostra saw the tension rising between the two groups from across the square and decided that something needed to be done before things got out of control and before they started fighting.
During the rest of the verse which everyone minus the two competitive divisions, Nostra asked Stella "There are 11 branches of magic right?" in order to to double check that they were right. Stella nodded just in time for Nostra to shout "eleven branches of magic!" before either of the reviling decisions could. This seemed to put an end to their hostility towards each other but they still tried to out do the other by singing as they could to the point of almost screaming the lyrics. Even though their singing was terribly out of tune, no one minded since it blurred in with everyone else's joyful but also slightly out of tune singing.
"Ten main fractions, nine Overworld territories, eight major battles, several hundred deaths, six of Azura's inventions, five Nether challengers, four Endstone Crusaders, three warring realms, two dragon tamers and an ender gorf sitting happily! On the twelfth day of Christmas the fates bestowed on us..." the entire crowd screeched. "twelve Ender kingdoms!" Stella yelled as she had already been planning to say that halfway through the song. Finally everyone sang the rest of the song together and they also repeated the last line.
"Twelve Ender kingdoms,
Eleven branches of magic,
Ten main fractions,
Nine Overworld territories,
Eight major battles,
Several hundred deaths,
Six of Azura's inventions,
Five Nether challengers,
Four Endstone Crusaders,
Three warring realms,
Two dragon tamers,
And an ender gorf sitting happily!"Just before the last line Lance teleported away from his position as he anticipated that everyone would look over at him. He teleported himself away to save himself from more embarrassment. Unfortunately he wasn't very careful about where he was teleporting to and he ended up balancing right on top of the huge Christmas tree that sat right in the centre of the town square. Soon enough everyone noticed him on top of the tree and began laughing at the perfectly placed Christmas gorf who was now stuck there for all to see.
