Despite All Odds

If there was one thing I could think of at the time was that I hated the Nether. I didn't just hate the inhabitants but the place itself was a burning realm of eternal fire. Twice I had allowed my adrenaline in battle to lure me here, although unlike the last time I would not be making my visit here very brief. My fight with the red angel had proved disastrous. It had left me severely injured without my elytra or the very thing I had come here for, the end crystal. While I had lost all this stuff I had beaten the red angel and had managed to escape from 2 troublesome piglins.

I sighed as I had been sitting down for a good while after all the drama. Somehow my headache was a lot worse than it had been when I was fighting. The hot sticky air definitely wasn't helping as it was only making me feel feverish. 'Great. Just great. I'm injured, lost, flightless and alone. Now what?' I thought crossly. Normally I was good at remaining calm in most situations but at that moment everything was bothering me. "Argh go away you stupid fly!" I yelled at a fly whose buzzing was really irritating me. The fly only kept hovering around my head. Infuriated I attempted to swat it and when it dodge my hand I stood up and marched off in a huff.

I really wasn't acting myself. I wasn't being logical nor was I planning a solution but I was foolish wandering around the Nether without purpose. I was falling over a lot since my leg brace had run out of power and thus I only worsening my injuries when I should've been resting. After falling for the umpteenth time I only then noticed how thirsty and hungry I was. It was then I realised I had no clue what I was doing. I was out here in the middle of nowhere in an unfamiliar dimension. My fear was starting to rise upon becoming aware of my dire circumstances.

Suddenly I jumped in alarm when I heard rustling in the undergrowth. I activated my sword and readied myself for a fight. I was shaking less out of terror but more out of hunger, tiredness and ill health. Then a hoglin sprung from the bushes. Caught off guard as my senses weren't as quick as they should've been, I was knocked from my feet by the hoglin ramming its tusks into me. Now I was in even more pain lying on the floor next to a dangerous animal! The hoglin grunted and in my delusional state it seemed like it was laughing. "That's it! No one makes a joke out of me!" I screeched, scrambling to my feet and charged at the now terrified creature. In one clean swoop its head came away from its neck and the rest of the body fell to the left.

I probably stood there for 10 minutes staring. Defeated by my seemingly hopeless position, I let my problems circle round and round my head. Then it occurred to me when I realised that I'd solved my hunger issue, that is if I was capable of making a fire. Eventually I had gathered enough wood to light a fire so I took out my pistol and tweaked it a little to make the bullets more unstable so they'd spark a bit upon impact. I aimed at the centre of the logs and fired several times hoping that the sparks would ignite the logs. Unfortunately nothing happened. The logs wouldn't catch fire. In anger I kept shooting until I had used up my gun's entire power supply. It turned out that all Nether woods are fireproof.

In desperation for something to eat, I ended up cutting up the carcass with my sword and eating the meat raw. I can still remember the disgusting taste to this day. However foul it was, at least the raw meat satisfied my thirst better than any cooked meat would've done. My eyes were starting to close after I'd finished the slab of meat I'd cut for myself. Yawning I stretched, stood up and was prepared to head out on my way without taking some more meat for my journey. I started dragging my legs along the floor as I walked, with my only thought being my want to get out of this nightmare. However my body wouldn't allow it and I crashed onto the floor as my vision blurred. I was roasting not just from the heat but I probably had hyperthermia and a fever and maybe even concussion. My eyes closed as I lost consciousness.

When I awoke my headache still persisted. Slowly I pulled myself together determined to get out of this cursed land of fire. The heat was of great annoyance to me and I was drenched in sweat. I looked down and suddenly noticed why I was suffering so badly as I still had my warm winter lad coat on along with a long sleeve shirt underneath. After realising how stupid I'd been I hurriedly pulled the lab coat off and began to tear up the sleeves of my shirt. Having done this I felt a little better relatively speaking as living in the Nether was like living on the surface of the sun. Speaking of which, I was really starting to feel claustrophobic without being able to see the sun or sky above me.
