Ok so it wasn't like I wasn't paying attention that lesson but I cannot call myself a historian in any way. No matter how hard Azura has tried to teach it as a science, I can't help but get distracted. "Lyria have I lost your attention again or can you tell me the name of the 7th grand master?" Azura asked snapping me out of my thoughts. "Oh...er... was it... no I don't know." I stuttered. I struggle to remember dates and names at the best of times but today was particularly bad.

Azura had an accusing look on her face as she looked at me from across the desk. When I say desk I don't mean the kind of office desk that Lord Patrick or Commander Hilda has. No the desk where Azura taught me most of my studies, was more like a lab table, actually it is a lab table. I guess it makes sense if the majority of my lessons were science ones. Unfortunately for me today was a history lesson and I think I might have upset Azura for not paying attention.

I felt bad because Azura is a really good and fun mentor and I didn't want her to think there was something wrong with her method of teaching. "I'm sorry but I don't feel like learning history today." I said guiltily, hoping she would change the lesson subject. "Lyria I haven't had much time for your lessons lately and it has been ages since you've had a history one. I think it's only fair for you to complete this history lesson." she explained calmly. Upon seeing my reaction, she came up with a compromise. "Ok. I 'll give you some questions for you to look up in the library, while I prepare a better lesson for tomorrow." Now I really had trapped myself.

Why wasn't I pleased with what seems like an excellent arrangement? All I had was a simple task of answering some questions. It wasn't the task that was bothering me but rather my history book I was to write the answers in and hand it to Azura. I had managed to avoid using it and I had never let Azura see it. History was a subject we didn't do very often and so she had never gone through my book with me unlike the other subjects. I had always been nervous of her seeing my history book that I had repurposed as a sketch book. Although I was dreading opening it myself because I hadn't opened it in a long time and I didn't want to remember the times when I drew in it.

My heart nearly stopped when I heard Azura walk into the library to find me procrastinating. "Azura please let me leave the history for another day. The current war is bad enough without having to learn about why Dreadfort is called Dreadfort." I begged her. "Oh ok maybe it is my fault for choosing a rather negative period but you need to speak up. I would have instantly changed it to something more positive like the legend of the lost warrior ." Azura said placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "Ok I'm sorry. Do you mind if I finish it for tomorrow because it's almost lunchtime and I still have my military duties to attend to?" I asked half lying. Luckily she didn't notice I wasn't planning on doing my history and decided to dismiss me.The rest of the day was fine after I had swindled my way out of doing history. A stark contrast to my restless night's sleep.

I was quietly sketching animals in my history book (yes I know that is rather childish of me but this happened quite a few years ago) when someone called my name from behind me. Snapping the book shut I glanced over my shoulder to see my older sister walking up to me. "Hey, whatcha you got there?" Doraine asked me. "My history book. Why do I need history anyway? It's all so boring an negative." I complained. Doraine similed and ruffled my hair. "Ok so those legendary battles don't count then. In that case you had better hope that Azura and I can make the future history more exciting." She laughed teasingly. I lunged ready to tackle her to the ground, however she predicted I would do this and simply dodged out the way. She then sprinted off and I chased after her.

"Now you can join us on our adventures since now you are officially enrolled in the military." Doraine said while I was trying on my new uniform. "Speaking of which, why don't you have a look at your presents." Azura said, winking at Doraine. I stopped admiring my uniform and rushed over to where my presents were. I began tearing off the wrapping paper, curious as to what they had got me for my 16th birthday. Once the paper was ripped off I pulled out one of Azura's latest sword designs, the elytra blade. "Wait, are you sure you want to give me one?" I asked Azura, not able to believe that she had actually given me one of the few in existence. "No soldier is fully equipped without a weapon and I don't want Doraine thinking I'm selfish by not sharing with you, seeing you helped me design them." Azura said before Doraine interrupted. "Hey how come Lyria gets one and I don't?" she said, crossing her arms. "Because it's Lyria's birthday not yours and..." Azura never managed to finish her sentence before I squealed in delight, pulling out a pair of goggles that had a leather strap which could be fastened with a gold buckle. "I hope it's better than a gold necklace then." chuckled Doraine. "Definitely. Both presents are. Thank you." I replied, unable to stop smiling.
