The silence in the room is deadly. Not so much as a heavy breath passes between us as we stare into each other's piercing gaze.
He's stone-still, continuing to press the silver blade further into my neck while waiting for answers.
"I said who are you?" He doesn't question it this time; he demands it.
I don't know how to reply to that. Sure I let my guard down but only for a brief moment. No one has ever pulled a stunt like this with me, especially not while in bed.
I didn't read the signs or consider them for that matter. Now, because of my lack of awareness, he's threatening my life, and he has the upper hand.
"Don't give me any bullshit either. I found your gun. Now tell me who the fuck you are, or else I won't hesitate to end your life right this second." His words sting. They sting because I'm pathetic for letting my guard down as much as I did, especially since I know how much power he has. I was blinded by attraction.
"I'm only trying to survive because Namjoon's gone. I went out a few times to clear my head, met up with an old friend, and picked up a gun because I'm alone and need to learn to use it."
I keep my innocent tone held as tight as I can. If he even senses I'm lying, it's over.
"I'm staying here with men. The gun is for my protection; I've never even fired one before." I stare up into his cold eyes. I don't blink.
He can't know I'm an assassin, or he'll kill me. I can't leave this world not knowing who and where I came from, and I can't leave Jin by himself or put him at risk. I have goals, and I won't give up so easily on them.
"Explain that friend of yours," he narrows his eyes, keeping the knife steady. He ignores the line of blood running down my neck.
I can't bring him into this, but I have to mention him, or else that would seem more suspicious. I have to play it safe and lie again. "We're not close—"
"You said his name is Jin."
I try not to make any movements or give away the worry when he mentions his name. "He's just an old friend. I hardly ever see him."
"Then how did he know you were here? How did he know to come get you if he didn't know about that dick you were with at the casino?" He's not playing around. His words come out right after another.
"We just—"
"Don't lie to me," he cuts me off with a serious tone. His anger is rising.
"I'm not. I'm trying to explain if you give me the chance." Before anything else can be said, his next words shake me to the core.
"If you can't tell me exactly who he is and how you both are connected, then I'll have to kill you and him—"
I lean up from the bed, ignoring the sharp pain digging into my neck, and slap him hard across the face. Jin's life has been put in danger multiple times before, but I can't imagine a world without him.
"You leave him out of this. You want to kill me? Then try your best, but leave him alone." I snap viciously.
I hardly ever lose my composure, but Jin's involved this time. I'm not letting anyone hurt him. He better be glad I only slapped him and didn't rip the blade out of his hand. Mafia boss or not, he's fucking around with the wrong bitch.
He ignores the red mark appearing on his cheek. "Then tell me," he's unbothered by the slap, but he still presses for more.
I need to think of something fast. It has to make sense, and it has to be believable.
