No amount of time could thaw the ruthless chills that coat my skin, causing the hairs on my body to stand like a deadly army hellbent on war.

Why did he call? Why does he need to know? How does he have Taehyung's number?

Thoughts of every kind hit all at once, and I know I'm in deep trouble. If he's searching for me, it can't be for anything good.

"Can I borrow your phone? I need to call someone." He unlocks his phone and hands it to me without any hesitation. I'm thankful. "Thanks; I'll be outside."

Sliding out of the booth and exiting the diner, I step outside into the cool air. I call Jin.

"Hello?" His voice is raspy over the line. I wonder if I woke him.

"Hey, I was wondering if the boss called you." I try to remain nonchalant, but he realizes something is wrong.

"No, did he call you?" With a glance inside the diner at Taehyung, I end up explaining everything.

I explained how I was worried about the boss finding out about Taehyung and how he figured out his cell phone number.

It shouldn't surprise me. He's been able to track down the most well-hidden criminals within mere hours before. Hours.

The boss is a dangerous man—one who likes to keep tabs on our whereabouts. This is... new. He's never so much as cared where we were up until this second.

Has something gone wrong? Is there a new target list?

Maybe all along it was stupid to assume that Jin and I could run from him—to run away from this sick life of killing to survive.

"Hey, calm down," Jin finally shushes me as I spill the words too quickly.

"I'll talk to him. I'll explain about your friend overdosing and everything, okay? I'll back you up. We don't have any missions coming up that I know of, only solo missions, which you aren't doing. I have a couple tomorrow that I need to take care of, and when I call to tell him about completing the missions, I'll explain about you, alright? He won't touch you. I swear on my life that I will never let that happen." Jin calms me enough to finally breathe again.

I don't know if it's the fact that the boss knows about Taehyung, knows his number, or is asking about me, but I've become a nervous wreck regardless.

I've always known how dangerous the boss is. I've seen what he can do because before Jin and I started working as assassins, we had to clean up our boss' mess. It was so gory that I rushed out of the building to vomit.

It was too brutal—too sick and even worse... it was a whole family that he slaughtered.

I cleaned up the blood, while Jin disposed of the bodies. The bodies included a father, a mother, and two innocent, little girls.

It sickened me because I thought we would be going after rapists, killers, thieves—people who needed to be stopped to help bring the goodness of the world back, not unleash more hell than there already was. But it was too late to back out because Jin and I had already seen too much.

Something strikes me, and I have the urge to vomit all over again.

Jungkook mentioned that Hoseok knew a family... that he couldn't stand child and women murders because of what happened to his friend and her family.

Was that... was that the family... did Hoseok know them?

If that's the case, then my boss is out there directly hurting those close to Taehyung. It doesn't matter how long ago it was when Jin and I signed up—if the boss is targeting people who he can hurt that's close to Taehyung then the boss already knew about Taehyung a very long time ago.
