(Jesse's POV)
"Daaaddd..." I whined.
I hated when my dad drove me to school. He always wanted to make a big show out of everything. He was driving his blue Mercedes convertible today. He usually drove his trusty-rusty station wagon around town, but when I was involved, he would drive his most expensive car. He even wore his brown leather jacket, with slicked back hair, and a pair of rocker sunglasses.
I just rolled my eyes at the sight. I hated when he did this.
After the short ten minute drive to my school, we arrived at the school parking lot. He parked the car and turned toward me, "Have fun, sweetheart."
I rolled my eyes again, "Dad, I'm in high school, not kindergarten."
He shrugged and smiled as I exited the car. We waved at each other, and I made my way to my locker. I was standing at my locker, and then "he" appeared. "He" being Layton. Layton was the most popular guy in school, with his shaggy, dirty-blonde bangs and his casual clothes. He was indeed good-looking, and I had a major crush on him.
He was walking, casually, down the hall towards my locker. I tried to act cool and relaxed, but inside my heart was racing. He totally ignored me and kept walking towards his girlfriends locker. I sighed. I knew he would never fall for a girl like me.

I rode the bus home after school, because I knew my dad was still working. He was always working. He never hung out with me, and I didn't have mom anymore. My mother had died in a car accident about ten years ago. That was during World War III between the humans and the machines. That's all my father ever told me, and I never got anymore details from anyone else. I think people preferred to not talk about it.I arrived home and walked up the steps to my house. My house was pretty big, even though it was only my dad and I. It was a six bedroom house with four baths, living room, kitchen, dining room, two office areas, and the basement. The house was three floors from the ground up. I didn't know why we had such a huge house, but I know my dad likes to flaunt his rich lifestyle.
I unlocked the door and walked into the cold house. The air conditioners never seemed to stop running. I went upstairs to my room and laid my backpack in the corner. I quickly changed into my pajamas and walked downstairs to the basement. I always loved when dad wasn't home, because I could explore the "basement".
I walked into the basement and grimaced. It smelled of mildew and mold, and the dark gray walls looked dirty and dank. There were several pipes above, some even slightly dripping water. There was a small puddle collecting under the leaking pipe and the furnace just kicked on, making a loud, blasting noise. I flipped the light switch and the small lamp on a nearby desk dimly shined.
I smiled. I walked back to the light switch and flicked the other switch. The walls changed and turned into white, shiny metal. The floor changed into a nice white linoleum and a giant desk and computer popped out from inside the wall. Through the ceiling came blinding lights that cast a glow throughout the whole room.
I smiled. My father didn't know I knew this was here. He also didn't know that I knew where he really worked and what he really does.
