(Jesse's POV)

It was night now, and I was still in the Car World. Still the same Mustang. Lightning hadn't come out of his room for a while, but I was still trying to understand everything that was happening.

I don't think Lightning knows what he's getting himself into, honestly. How is he going to get me home? Like he can just make a magical portal appear out of no where. Or can cars do that?

I just sat on his floor, thinking and thinking about other superpowers cars could possibly have. Suddenly, my stomach, well my tank actually, lurched and let out a low rumble. I realized something. I hadn't eaten anything all day.

What did cars eat? I decided to look for a kitchen and see if the had a refrigerator or something. I drove around for a few minutes, seeing as I'm still not used to driving, until I came to an area that I would assume resembled a kitchen. The countertops were very low, for car accessibility, and black. There wasn't an oven, but there was a small sink and what looked like a small refrigerator.

I drove closer and opened the door of the fridge to find nothing but oil cans. I cringed and closed the door quickly. No need to look at that puke in a can.

I finally gave up and decided to go and ask Lightning if he had anything. I drove to his room and tapped on the door with my tire. I heard a groan and tires rolling towards the door. A lock clicked and the door swung open to reveal a sleepy-eyed Lightning.

He yawned and mustered up a small smile, "Can I help you?"

I smiled shyly, "Is there anything I can eat? I'm really hungry."

He furrowed his brow, or windshield or whatever it was. He drove out of his room and to the kitchen. He opened the fridge and took out a can of that disgusting oil. He slid it across the floor to me. I gagged, "Ew! I'm not eating that!"

He sighed, "Well, starve than. If you've forgotten, you're a car for the time being," he gestured toward the can, "This is what cars drink. It won't taste too bad, I promise."

He gave me a reassuring smile before I opened the can and took a sip. Then I started to chug it. That was the greatest thing I've ever tasted!

I drank the entire can and smiled, "Oh my gosh! That was amazing!"

He chuckled, "I told you. But don't drink any oil when you get back to the human world, it's not really good for humans."

I sighed and rolled my eyes, "Gosh, you think I'm that stupid?"

He chuckled again and I laughed with him. He drove past me and back to his bedroom. I followed him inside and looked around. There wasn't much to see; a TV, table, bed/mat thing, alarm clock. It was your typical adult bedroom, but in car form.

He rolled over to his bed and I parked across from him. We just sat there in an awkward, eerie silence for what seemed hours until he spoke up. "Is your dad still as crazy as I remember him?"

I sighed, "If it's been 10 years, then you probably won't even recognize him. He's turned into a psychopath. I barely even know him anymore."

He nodded, "I see."

That awkward silence returned.

I started looking around his room when I noticed something. Sitting on the table beside his bed was a small, black box. I stared at it, taking in every detail. He must have noticed because he chuckled.

I looked back at him, "What's so funny?"

He shook his grille, "Nothing. You look like you've just had deja vu."

I shrugged, "I don't know. My dad has a box just like that. He always told me to never touch it."

He shrugged, "Well, I'm thinking it's the way back to the Human World."

I looked at him, shocked, "What?! A way back?"

He nodded, "Yeah. That's no ordinary box you know. It's a portal. It's the same box I used when I went to the Human World."

So cars did have portals. I grabbed the box and examined it. He quickly grabbed the box from me, "Don't touch it! You might open it up. I haven't even told you my plan yet."

I quickly situated myself in what seemed a polite manner and said in a serious voice, "Go on..."

He chuckled, "Alright, well I'm not sending you by yourself. Who knows what your dad or anyone would do with you. Plus, I don't know where you'll end up. My plan is, my friend Mater and I will go with you. I know a way to get back to the Cars World, so that isn't an issue. The issue is where I'm going to take you. I don't know if you want to go back with your dad or what, but I'm thinking if you went to a foster care building, you would be a lot happier. Whatever or wherever you wanna go or do, we'll take you there."

I just sat there at a loss of words. This totally random guy wanted to help me get home. I shook my head, regaining my focus before replying, "Lightning, that's really nice of you, but I want to go back to my dad. He's the only family I've got, but I also don't want to put you in danger. He's after you and he won't rest until you're dead. I don't want you to get hurt."

He nodded, understandingly, " It's alright. I'm sure I can figure everything out. For now, let's get some rest and we'll figure out everything tomorrow morning. We need to leave tomorrow though. The racing season is going to be starting next week, and I don't want to miss it."

I nodded and started driving out his door, "Sounds good. I'll just...let you sleep now. I'll take the floor out here. Um...yeah. Goodnight Lightning."

He sighed and smiled, "Goodnight Jesse."

I left his room, shutting the door behind me. I made my way into his living area and parked on the rug. I slowly relaxed my axles and fell into a deep sleep.
