(Lightning's POV)

"Mater! Maaaateeerrrr! MATER!"

Jesse and I have been wandering around looking for Mater for what seemed hours now. No one was in sight.

We appeared to be in the countryside. Tall grasses swayed in the wind and there were trees scattered in several spots of the area. There wasn't a cloud in sight and the harsh sun was beating down on us and causing us to pant. The area was very hilly, with lush green grass and smooth curves. Far in the distance, tall corn stalks grew and a giant, red barn dominated the land.

I pointed to the barn, "Maybe Mater went there. It is hot, maybe it's cooler in there."

Jesse nodded and we started making our way to the barn. Hours seemed to pass before we finally arrived to the barn. The building cast a large shadow, and we were soon enveloped in it and relieved. The shade felt like heaven compared to the harsh sun.

Jesse and I went closer to the doors and pushed one open. The barn was very spacious inside. No tractors or farm tools in sight. There weren't even any farm animals, but the place smelled strongly of manure. The inside was pitch black, except for the few areas of light that streamed through the windows.

I walked further into the building and started searching the walls for a light switch. Jesse stepped in and peered around the darkness. She gagged, "Ugh, it smells terrible in here. Where's the smell coming from? There's nothing here."

I shrugged, "I don't know. Maybe somebody was here and they just left."

I kept feeling the wall until I hit something. It felt like a switch. I flipped it and a piercing loud sound radiated from the center of the room. The door slammed closed and the building lit up. The room was empty besides a chair in the center. The chair was sparking and brightening by the second.

Jesse ran to me and flipped the switch again and the chair darkened and we were back in the pitch blackness. I had to close my eyes for them to adjust before I spoke. "What was that?"

Jesse shook her head, "It's an electric chair. It's a torture device. I don't think people use them anymore, but why is one here?"

I only shrugged. How would I know? I've never even seen one before, and I didn't plan on finding out what happened when you sat in one.

Jesse and I decided to leave and continue searching for Mater. He obviously wasn't here, so where could he be?

We walked a little distance south from the barn when we saw a car. It was speeding down a dirt road and heading towards our direction. I heard Jesse gulp.

I looked towards her with a look of confusion, "What's wrong?"

She looked at me frightened and replied shakily, "That's my....dads car."
