As soon as Delphani began giving Kira a tour, I could tell that she would become overwhelmed. My theory was proven true when she fainted when she saw the succubus. I glanced at Delphani, raising my eyebrows to say, 'there, now see what you've done?'

"Told you," I gloated. Pushing my purple hair from my face, I popped a new piece of bubblegum into my mouth.
Delphani pursed her lips. I watched her knit her eyebrows as she tapped Kira gently, as if she were a ticking bomb.
I smirked. Kneeling by Kira, I pushed Delphani aside—if you couldn't tell by now, she and I weren't the best of friends—and yelled, "Ki-ki. Wake up. You're embarrassing me."

Kira yanked her eyes open to glare at me. Then, seeming to remember where she was, she jolted up.
"Devil-lady?" She asked.
"Ran away as soon as you fainted," I confirmed.
Kira sighed in relief. "Okay. I may have overreacted."
I smiled. "Actually, I think you're underreacting. Or at least, reacting just the right amount. It's not every day that a human sees a demon."

She raised an eyebrow at me. "Maybe."

I held out my hand to help her up. She grasped it and pulled up.

Looking around, she said, "Okay. So. What do you all sell for food around here?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kira was shoveling in her fourth butter-pastry. I watched in horror as she devoured the flaky food.
Sliding her plate across the table to me, Delphani encouraged her to slow down.
Swallowing, Kira closed her eyes and licked her fingers.
I frowned. "Good?"
She nodded, eyes closed as if she were stuck in paradise. Maybe she was.
I heard Delphani chuckle. Kira opened her narrowed eyes.
"Look," she said. "Amethyst. What did gray-eyes mean when she called you a traitor?"
I raised an eyebrow. "Gray eyes?"
"You get my point. Stop avoiding the question," Kira shot.
I groaned. "Fiiiine. Her name's Selina, and she's a member of the Bea Team. The Bea Team used to be a scientific organization- one that worked on things such as habitats for mythical animals, air bubbles, enchanted foods, on and on. I used to be a scientist there. I worked for the Department of Ally Treaties. I worked on getting things invented for other species- mostly the vampires-"
"Vampires?" She squeaked.
"and the alicorns," I continued. "Then, the scientific leader, Ignite, and his sister, Inflama- the new queen- changed their ways.
"They burned down the base, claiming that the Immortal Planet could do better things. Inflama took the throne on the team, causing mayhem along the Ignite followers and the Inflama followers. Ignite supports Queen Embella- our queen- and Inflama wishes to take Embella's throne. By murdering her, most likely."
I could practically see Kira's head spinning. She was processing this.
"Okay," she said slowly, "exactly how many species are there?"
I thought. "The Alicorns, Unicorns, and Pegasi- the Equestrians. The Vampires, Demons, and Wolves- the Chaotics. The Angels, Underwaters, Shifters, and Spirits- the Gravities. The Gargoyles, Sphinxes, and Phoenixes- the Unusuals. Pixies, Sprites, and Faeries- the Flutters. Finally, the Misfits, Ancients, and Unclaimed- the Scattered. So... ninteen?"
Kira's jaw dropped lower and her eyes grew wider with each species I named.
Clearing her throat- she was taking this impressively well- she asked, "and what are you two? What am I?"
I smiled warmly at her, but I knew that would only do so much. "Delphani's a Spirit. Well, her mother is and she's next in line. Spirits are the only genetic species- the rest are claimed. I'm an angel, though I may not look it." I pouted. "Most people don't believe me- they say I 'look to emo' whatever that means. No, I won't take my wings out right now. And you." I paused. "Well, so far, you're unclaimed."
Kira blinked. "And that means...."
Delphani jumped in. "It means that the goddesses and gods of the species' are not done fighting over you. The god or goddess that wins will enchance your unclaimed form into whatever species they may rule."
She looked doubtful. "Please. Why would gods fight over me? Look, I've read way too many books, which might be the only reason I've believed you this far, but to have deities fighting over me? I'm starting to think y'all are pranking me."
I jumped up. "Kira!" Grabbing her arm, I pulled her out of the diner, to which she stared longingly at the butter-pastries we could see from the window.
"Kira!" I shook her, jarring her focus.
"Hmm?
I took a breath. "You can't say things like that. You will offend hundreds of people in there."
She crosser her arms, finally bringing her attention to me. "You know what? I can't do this right now. I'm going for a walk."
Then, before I could stop her, she stormed off.
