The half-moon shines over the smooth granite rocks, turning them silver. The silence is broken only by the ripple of the black river's restless waters and the whispers of the trees of the forest beyond.
In the shadows, there is a quick movement of various shadowy, stealthy figures. A small silver glow reveals blades and claws exposed in the moonlight, as various suspicious eyes sneak trough the bushes. Then, as if obeying a silent signal, the figures jump over each other. The bright sparks of clashing blades shine over the waters of the lake, as well as a shining, blue energy that surrounded each one of the warriors. Alongside the warriors, there where a few creatures with different shapes and appearance. Some were animalistic, some were humanoid, they fough alongside their masters with teeth and claws.
In the middle of the frenzied battle, a big tabby cat raises his head in triumph as he immobilizes another reddish-brown tom, pressing the blade of a long and menacing darkened steel Battleaxe over his throat "Oakheart!" roars the agressor "How dare you hunt in our territory? The Sunningrocks belongs to Thunderclan!"
"After tonight, Tigerclaw, This territory will become yet another hunting ground for riverclan!" answers the reddish-brown tom, spitting his words
Tigerclaw grunts, about to reply, when a sudden yowl, shrill and anxious, comes from the riverside.
"Look out! There comes more Sorcerers from Riverclan!" Tigerclaw turns and sees shiny and wet bodies surfacing from the water below the rocks. The sorcerers of riverclan, drenched and silencious, runs to the shore and joins the battle, not even bothering to shake off the water from their bodies.
Tigerclaw gave Oakheart a furious stare "Riverclan might have the Breath of the Sea technique, but you don't belong in this forest!" He says, baring his teeth as his axe's blade threaten to pierce deeper into the struggling cat
In the middle of the chaos, a desperate scream from a thunder clan cat stands out. A Riverclan feline with bristly fur holds an immobilized sorcerer on the ground, choking her with a quarterstaff, holding her by the neck.
Tigerclaw lets go out of his prisoner, rushing to the two sorcerers. He crossed his index and middle finger, and after a few seconds, the enemy sorcerer was suddently thrown away, as if something hit him with incredible strenght. "Quick, Mousefur, run!" he screams, before rushing to the attacking Riverclan cat wich attacked his friend. Mousefur obeys, getting up on her legs and tripping on her own legs, trembling because of a deep cut on her shoulder.
Behind her, The two cats where fighthing vigorously, with the Riverclan sorcerer managing to hit tigerclaw in the nose with the Quarterstaff, breaking his nose, as the thunderclan Sorcerer roars in rage, crossing once again his fingers. His opponent tries to brace for the invisible blow, only to feel to the ground with a yelp of pain with a cut suddently opening from his leg.
"Tigerclaw!" the voice comes from a sorcerer with red tail and fox pelt "it's useless! There are too many Riverclan Sorcerers!"
"No, Redtail, Thunderclan will never be defeated!" Snaps tigerclaw, running to his companion's side "This territory is ours!" the blood gushes from his broken nose, and he shakes his head, impatient, spreading red drops over the rocks
"Thunderclan Recognizes your bravery, Tigerclaw, but we cannot lose any more sorcerers." Redtail argues, "Bluestar would never allow her Sorcerers to fight in such adverse situations. We will have other opportunities to avenge this defeat!" he firmly receives Tigerclaw's amber gaze, takes a step back and Flash steps to the rock at the edge of the forest.
"Retreat, Thunderclan! Retreat!" he screams. Immediately, the sorcerers, one by one, start to flash-step away. Frustrated and in pain from their wounds, they retreat to Redtail's direction. In a heartbeat, the Riverclan cats get confused. Could it be such an easy to win the battle? Oakheart gaves a scream of triumph. Once they hear it, the Riverclan Sorcerers raise their voices and join their deputy, celebrating the victory.
Redtail looks at his sorcerers. With a quick sign from his hand, he gives them the signal. The Thunderclan Cats enter the forest and disappear between the trees. Tigerclaw is the last. He hesitates at the edge of the forest, looking back to the battlefield filled with blood. His face is Dark; his eyes, angry slits. Then, with a Flash step, he enters the silent forest, to join his clan.
It's night. In a desert clearing, a She-cat looks to the sky. She is alone; old and grey, wearing a regal, elegant Flowing Blue robe adorned with Silver trim. In her arm, there is a light-blue blacelet adorned with the symbol of the moon. In between the shadows of the village, she can hear the breathing and the restlessness of the sleeping cats.
A small tortoiseshell she-cat arises from a dark corner, with quick and silent steps.
The grey cat lowers her head in a greeting "how's Mousefur?" she asks
"The wounds are deep, Bluestar." Answers the tortoiseshell, setting down on the dew-damp grass "But she is young and strong; Soon she will be better."
"And the others?" asks Bluestar
"They also will recover."
Bluestar sighs, "We are lucky to not have lost any sorcerers this time. You are a skilled healer, Spottedleaf." She tilts her head, observing the stars "I am deeply disturbed by today's defeat. Since I've become Thunderclan's Leader, we have never been overpowered in our own territory." She murmurs, "Those are hard times for our clan. The renewal season is late, and less kits where born. To survive, Thunderclan needs to count with more Sorcerers."
"The year just started." Spottedleaf calmly observed, "There will be more kits when greenleaf arrives."
The grey she-cat shakes her shoulders "Maybe. Nevertheless, it takes time to nurture the young to war. For thunderclan do defend his territory from curses and other clans, it's necessary to have new sorcerers as soon as possible."
"Are you seeking answers from starclan?" Asks Spottedleaf gently, following her leader's gaze and contemplating the stars that shine in the dark sky
"It's in times like those that we need the words of ancient sorcerers to help us. Did Starclan commune with you?" asks the leader.
"No; and it has been a few moons, Bluestar."
Suddently, a Shooting star scratchs the sky over the trees. Spottedleaf's tail trembles and her fur shivers
Bluestar's ear tense, but she maintains silence while spottedleaf continues to watch the sky.
After a few moments, Spottedleaf lowers her head and turns to Bluestar: "It was a message from Starclan." Whispers, "Fire alone can save our clan."
"Fire?" Bluestar repeats "But fire burns, destroys. How can it save us?"
Spottedleaf shakes her head "I do not know." She admits "but it was the message that Starclan decided to share with me."
The Thunderclan leader stares into the light blue eyes of the healer, and responds: "You were never wrong until now, Spottedleaf. If Starclan said, so be it. Fire alone will save our clan."
