Untitled Part 10

Julius POV:

The sky is still a deep shade of indigo when I wake up and the girl is still fast asleep.I quietly get up from my bed, careful not to make a sound as I tip-toe over the cool marble cement floors.I reach the door and quietly slip on my ragged sneakers. This will be quick. I opened the door slowly and as quiet as a mouse but it let out a  loud whine almost just to tease me. I quickly whipped my head to where the girl was still fast asleep. I sighed with relief and grabbed my coat from the tiny hook on the door and left. I peered out into the dimly lit hallway to scan for attendants. None. I grinned quickly, but just to myself. The hallway had a  glass door leading outside that showcased a beautiful garden perfected with orchids, Irises and some other flowers I couldn't remember the name of and a beautiful gazebo that was easily the size of my bedroom. I walked briskly to the door and attempted to open it  and it opened with ease and the cool air from outside washed over my face .I explored the garden, being careful not to step on the flower beds it was breathtaking. Like nothing I've ever seen before. I then noticed on the other side of the fence there was a playground that was a walking distance from the hospital. I latched open the fence and walked over to the playground. The earthy smell of the dirt and the overpowering stench of rust hit me as I approached the swings. I sat on the swing aimlessly, kicking my feet in the dirt. I looked in front of me to see what was shining so bright . There was the moon , bright and beautiful with a blue cast to it. The sky seemed so big with stars shining brightly. I got up from the swings and laid on the grass. This reminded me of the many afternoons me and Lisa would spend together, just looking at the stars. I remember how she taught me all the star formations .There was the big dipper. I traced the outline with my finger. Just then I saw a flash in the sky. A shooting star flew by. Just then I shut my eyes to make a wish. After all, I heard you were supposed to make a wish on a shooting star for good luck. And I only ever seemed to get bad luck recently. I wish that Lisa was still here. I wish I hadn't been responsible for her death that night. The night of the accident. I wish my mom was here to console me.I wish my sister was here right now. I wish I had never gotten cancer.

"Are you done?"

I opened my eyes to see  the shadow of Rania's face glowing in the moonlight.  I jumped up startled." What are you doing here?" I asked her astounded. "The real question is, what are you doing here?"I stared blankly at her. "I come here every night when the attendants leave. Nora always leaves the door unlocked for me so I can go outside. You woke up so I had to leave a little later than usual" She shrugged."No biggie" I glanced down at the sand" I guess I came here to see the  shooting stars" I admitted." Me and Lisa would see them every night." I sat in silence. Rania then reached out to gently hold my hand. "You can talk to me. Tell me more about Lisa."

"It's okay, I just don't think you should keep this burden to yourself anymore." She looked into my eyes; her warm  hazel meeting my cool grey."I sighed. I could feel my hands starting to shake I then told her about that night.

"That night"

Rania POV:

"It was a meteor shower predicted to fall. So me and Lisa decided to go to the playground, the best part in town to see them. For the past couple of months, Lisa-my childhood friend for almost 16 years, had been acting a bit strange, but she kept brushing it off whenever I would ask her the matter.I still regret not doing anything back then..." The boy said thoughtfully. "The girl who was so important to me, I let her slip between my fingers."He clenched his fists and unclenched them with a defeated sigh." That night, she gave me a gift. It was a necklace, it had our names in it and she made me promise to never take it off." Julius gingerly rubbed the necklace he was wearing that I had noticed a few times but had never questioned .'LISA 'was carved into it and the silver letters seemed to sparkle in the moonlight."We played on the playground and I still remember pushing her that night. Pushing her on the merry go round and her asking me to spin her faster. That would be the last time I would hear  her sweet laugh"His eyes became glassy."This is all I have left of her now" His voice was now  beginning to crack as he spoke" It was 3:45 am" He chuckled sadly"She called me at 3:45 am and I didn't pick up because that night I was diagnosed with cancer and I was so angry at the world. I was even angry at Lisa"He looked me dead in the eyes and I could feel the sharpness in his eyes" She killed herself that same night" He took a deep breath"I remember getting that call on a Monday morning as I was going to school that she had committed the unthinkable"He sniffed."" I didn't want to believe it was true when I got that call Lisa was so bright and cheery to everyone, we never would have thought..."His voice trailed off. I took a deep breath. "The same thing happened to my mom, she passed away but due to sickness, but after she passed, my father became an alcoholic. All he would do was drink. And it would get so bad he would hit me and my siblings sometimes. It got so bad we had to hide the alcohol. One time as I was flushing it down the toilet he came in and... Lets just say he's the reason i'm here right now" I said while looking down."Ahh sorry for bringing up my own issues, but I just wanted you to know you're not alone. " I gave him a half smile"It gets better" and he stared at me. His face became blush and he reached out to hug me tightly"Thank you, you have no idea how much I needed to hear those words recently" He murmured.I was taken aback  by the sudden embrace ,but I hugged him back nonetheless. "You're welcome" We seemed to be hugging forever . I just felt so safe and calm in his arms. Someone called out to us. Nora." Hey lovebirds, the attendants are checking in soon, they'll freak if they don't see you in the room" My face turned crimson red as I quickly let go of him. I saw him sitting on the floor and reached my hand out to help him get up"We're in this together" He smiled up  at me."Thank you Rania I mean it"
