Kate POV

It's been I don't know how many years since I saw my very own friend Eleanor and Santa Clause. Since we saved Christmas in 2018.

"Lamest Christmas Ever" I said as Teddy sat down nest to me "really?" He questioned "yeah" I said back.

"What kind of person would wanna spend the best holiday of the year, sitting on the hot beach with fruity umbrella drinks."

I said irritated "gonna go with just about everybody" Teddy said "well not me.  Or when I could be at home baking cookies, and building snowmen with real snow."

I said to Teddy "and worst of all, all my friends are having parties, and shopping, sledding."

I said scrolling through my phone "I'm missing everything" I sighed.

"Kate, there's nothing you can do about it, okay?" Teddy said scoffing "so you might as well just relax and try to have fun."

Teddy said "I think I liked you better when you were a car thief" I said. As I said that I thought about Eleanor.

"I liked you better when you weren't such a buzzkill" he said to me, when I looked at my mom and Bob dancing together.

I made a disgusting face "ugh, how embarrassing" I said "oh, so that's what this is about. Bob" he said.

"No, this is not about Bob. I could care less about Bob" I said looking at Teddy.

"He just brought us here so he could kiss up to mom" I said "give him a break, Kate. It means he really likes here."

Teddy said "it's too soon. They've only been dating for ten months" I said "and they've known each other a lot longer than that" he said "besides... he makes mom happy."

He said "yeah well he's not dad" I said softly, the silence was erupted by Bobs son Jack "cómo estás, party people?" Jack chuckles.

I rolled my eyes as he made his way to me and Teddy "what are we looking at?" He asked us as he looked at his dad and my mom dancing "ugh, now that is something you can't unsee."

He said "what are the odds my dad proposes on this trip?" Jack asked as I tensed up I looked at Teddy and he just gave me a ' chill look' "or maybe she does. I mean your mom is a pretty progressive woman."

He said "Teddy! I heard they have snorkeling. You wanna go?" A girl asked Teddy.

"Yeah, one sec" he said then looks at me "you two want to come?" Teddy asked me and Jack "nope" I said "yeah thanks for asking, Teddy, but I've got horrible anxiety asthma, and about 11 different allergies."

"Alright. Um, well, suit yourselves. Hey, cheer up, Grinch, for a true believer, your forgetting the number one rule. 'Better not pout'."

Teddy said I just rolled my eyes, I walked away from Jack as he just followed me. "Hey Kate, wait up" Jack said.

I went up to the bar to grab another drink "another chocolate smoothie, please" I said to the guy, "make that two. Can you prepare mine lactose-free?" Jack asked.

As I looked at him annoyed "so what should we do?" He asked me as I looked at him "we?" I questioned.

"Oh I'm gonna hang out by myself, but why don't you try the water slide?" I asked him so he can leave me alone.

"And risk breaking my nose? It's one of my best features" he said as my mom and Bob came over to us "hey, guys" my mom said.

"They're having a caroling party on the beach. You wanna join?" My mom asked us "yeah" Jack said with a smile "no, thanks" I said looking at my phone.

"Come on, Kate. I heard you live singing Christmas carols" Bob said "kate has a great singing voice. She was lead vocalist in the school choir" my mom said.

"In fifth grade" I said "really? So was I" he said "really?" My mom asked "yeah, you know nothing raises the Christmas spirit like music."

He said I rolled my eyes and looked back at my phone "come on. Music?" He said "yeah" my mom chuckled.

He then started to sing o Christmas tree then I just started to walk away from them.

I walked on the beach and looked up at the sky, "Santa, I know it's probably too late to write a letter, and the wi-fi here stinks, but if you're listening, I want to amend my Christmas wish. I mean the electric scooter would be really cool.

But I need something more important than that right now. I need to get out of this place. Moms basically ditching us for this new guy and his scaredy-cat son. It's so depressing. And in a few weeks, it's gonna be like dad never existed.

So, please, Santa, help out a true believer... or I swear... I'm gonna run away." I said and walked away.
