I wake up with a pounding headache, and look around. I'm in my room. I spring up, and rush to my bathroom mirror and examine myself. There's no bruises or anything. How did I get home? I wonder as I make my way downstairs. The house is empty. On the fridge is a note reading "Gone out." -N + C.
Hmm. I look out of the living room window. My car sits in the driveway.What? Was last night a dream? No, it couldn't have been. I run upstairs to my room and dig in my dirty clothes. Sure enough, the black dress lies crumpled up on top. So, someone found me in the woods, brought me home, and drove my car home? What the hell? My stomach growls as a scent wafts into my nose. I'm so hungry that for the moment, I'm blinded.
I follow the scent downstairs. It smells delicious and rich. Sure enough, sitting in the microwave is a plate of sausage. Oh well. I'm sure nobody will mind. Almost ravenously, I chow down on the food with no regard for anything else. When I finish the plate, I'm still not satisfied, though. I grunt and shove it aside frustratedly. The plate bounces off the wall and shatters.
I stand up quickly. What the hell? I barely touched it. I grab the shards and wince as they cut open my palm. The injuries heal up quickly and I drop the remaining glass in shock. In just seconds, there's no evidence that there ever was any injury. What's happening to me? I hurriedly get dressed and make my way to school, completely dumbfounded. My teeth grind against each other when I walk into the school.
All around me are roaring noises. Air, voices, footsteps, someone dropping a tray, someone flushing a toilet. I cover my ears and run into the nearest bathroom. The girls in the bathroom immediately cease their conversation upon my arrival. My eyes burn. I burst into a stall and slam the door behind me. The girls's hearts behind me leap as they all jump and promptly leave the bathroom.
I groan and rub at my eyes and ears, begging the noise to stop. I spend I don't how long like that, pressed up against the stall wall. Eventually I stand, and open the stall. Without opening my eyes, I grope until I reach a sink and splash water into my face. Get a grip. I open my eyes slowly and peer into my reflection. My eyes are glowing. I yelp and blink hard, trying to dispel the sight. When I reopen my eyes, they're back to normal. I gulp and take a deep breath.
I must be going through an epic hangover right now. I'm never drinking alcohol again. A sharp pain in my abdomen causes me to yelp again. I lift up my shirt. On my stomach is...a bite mark. And it looks fresh. It leaks blood out and I panic. I grab at paper towels and dab it unsuccessfully. I blink and it's gone. I look at the paper towels. They're perfectly dry.
~~~
"Something's happening to me!" I exclaim to Natalie, who only groans. "You probably just had one too many beers. You're hallucinating." Damnit! I slam my fist into the table at my sudden and unaccounted for wave of anger. My fist leaves an imprint. The whole cafeteria stares. I groan and get up from the table. Fuck this. I drive home and collapse into my bed. I'm not dealing with this. Then I fall asleep.
~~~
I wake up from my nap with a cover thrown over me. Moonlight shines in from my window. But that's not my concern. I rip off the blanket and leap up with the sudden urge to run. I yank open the window and jump out without hesitation. Landing perfectly on my feet, I take off into the woods. I follow a feeling. It's like...electricity bouncing along my veins. It's exhilarating. It grows stronger and stronger until my hairs are sticking up. My instincts tell me to slow down as I hear voices. I crouch down behind some bushes and listen.
"It means something Silas, and you know it! It's getting stronger, and I-" He cuts off abruptly, and I know my presence is no longer unknown. I try to run but barrel straight into Derek's chest. I gasp. His eyes are a startling molten orange, seeming to move. The electricity spikes to an all new high. My face begins to grow dull pains. "Regina? What're you doing here?" I cry out in pain as I feel my lips split.
His eyes follow me in confusion as I collapse to the ground. I hear a new set of footsteps followed by an erratic heartbeat. "What's wrong with her?" Derek asks Silas. "I don't know." More shuffling. My gums are screaming now, and I'm groaning. My finger swipes over a tooth, which is now sharpened considerably. I gasp and finally look up, meeting Derek's eyes. His widen as he steps back.
"How is it possible?" He whispers. Silas stares at me with equal shock. "Oh no. Now we're in serious trouble." I crawl over to a nearby puddle. My reflection stares back at me, with two molten orange eyes. I pass out.
