Chapter 36

3 Weeks Later...

Haley's P.O.V

"I think this is the last box," I say, sitting the cardboard box into the back of the truck. As Adam and I looked into the back of the U-Haul truck, we both wrapped our arms around each other. "You did it.. You got into college," he says, kissing my head. "You think we're going to be able to make it out in California?" "We'll be alright." I smiled and rested my head against his chest. "I never thought I'd see the day where I actually leave this town." Adam let out a deep breath, "That's how things go sometimes. We move on, but eventually we always come back home.. Just like I came back to you." "I'm so glad you did," I say, "Because none of this would be possible without you." "I love you," he says. I looked up at him and kissed him. "I love you, too, Adam."

We broke from the embrace to the sound of Jamie's voice. "Haley! You have a flight to catch, remember?" I turned around to see her and Levi standing at the front door, holding baby Jamison. Then, Emily stepped between them and ran to get a hug. I dropped to my knees as soon as she got to me and held her in my arms. "Be a good girl, Em. Stay in school, get good grades, and don't let any people convince you to do things you know aren't right." She nodded, "Okay, okay I will. I won't let you down." I slightly pulled away and I noticed tears streaming down her cheeks. I wiped them away. "Don't cry. I'll see you soon." "Call me as soon as you get there, okay?," she says. "I promise. I love you so much." "I love you, too." I gave her another hug, then stood back up, waiting for Jamie and Levi.

Levi hugged me first. "Be careful out there," he says. "I will be." Jamie handed the baby to Levi and pulled me into her arms. "I can't believe my best friend is moving across the country," she says. I nodded, more tears beginning to flow, "I know. I'm going to miss you so much, Jamie." "I'm going to miss you, too. Don't do anything I wouldn't do, alright. And make sure to come visit soon, and call me and text me all the time." I smiled, "Okay. Take care of Jamison and Levi for me. Love you." She smiled back, "Love you, too." 

Just as I thought all of the goodbyes were over, out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone walking into the driveway. I turned around and couldn't believe what I was seeing. "Didn't think you could leave without telling me bye first, did you?," Aiden says. "I can't believe you're here," I say as he wraps his arms around me. "I literally just got out of rehab an hour ago," he chuckled, "And I couldn't let you go without telling you bye." "Thank you for being here.. I'm so happy you're doing okay again." "Yeah. There's going to be some struggles ahead, but I can handle them." I smiled and hugged him again, "Thanks, for everything.. I mean that." "No, thank you..You taught me that facing your problems is better than keeping everything inside and ignoring the issues.. I'll always be grateful for that." "I love you, Aiden." "I love you, too." He released me from his arms and shook Adam's hand. "Sorry for that one time I kinda attacked you." Adam laughed, "It's okay, man. I understand." 

We all exchanged hugs once more, then Adam and I got in his car and went for the airport. California, here we come!
