Talia Abrams had always felt somewhat alone. She had once described herself as perpetually sad, which she had stuck with for a long time. She had never felt happiness for an extended period of time, and her music reflected that.
Talia had met her bandmates in college. She was performing at an open mic at an unappealing dive bar right outside campus. The two women, Astrid and Margo, had approached her after her set. They told her she had a lovely voice, but tremendously depressing lyrics, to which Talia laughed at. They then asked her to join their band because their lead singer can just transferred to a college across the country. Perfect, right? Yes, perfect. Together they formed the band Solstice.
Along the way, their music had been very successful. The three women had gained a crowd of girls, lesbians, and the mentally ill. Quite fitting, actually. Talia had met Phoebe Bridgers in 2017 after she had dropped her first album, Stranger in the Alps. Talia saw her from across the room at a party, tapped her on the shoulder, and told her she loved her song Funeral. Phoebe was quite surprised, saying she absolutely adored Solstice. Talia decided in that moment that she loved Phoebe Bridgers.
After boygenius had released their EP the next year, Phoebe had invited Talia and the other two Solstice members to their drop party. Phoebe introduced Talia to her fellow bandmates, Lucy and Julien. Julien was instantly enamored by the redhead. She profusely complimented her for what felt like five minutes straight, and Talia had felt her heart jump out of her chest. This was the very slow beginning to something real.
