maya did talk to her parents about how she felt and her mom understood, her dad on the other hand did not. he wanted them to be friends.

friday rolled around quickly. maya and nervana had a change of clothes in their backpack so after school they could just go to mirellas house.

they walked to mirellas house in relative silence. their dad told nervana about how maya felt and she just felt awkward now. but mirella insisted they go through with their sleep over before deciding to cut off the hope of the friendship.

"so you guys want to go to target?" mirella asked while nearing her house.

"no." maya grumbled.

"okay... marshall's then? there's these throw blanket i've been wanting to check out." nervana offered. mirella said something before maya could.

"sounds good to me." narvana could sense mirella attempting to keep the peace between them and she was grateful for it.

"i just gotta get my car keys from inside, ill take you guys bags inside." mirella offered while walking to her driveway.

"i think ill actually just stay here." maya said and took mirellas bag then nervanas.

"what? come on." mirella protested. though nervana wasn't surprised. maya wanted to be anywhere she wasn't.

"whatever." nervana pulled open the passenger door and got in the car.

they shopped around marshall's for awhile. they each got a throw blanket, mirella got a gnome statue for her room and nervana got a snow globe with a gingerbread house inside of it. mirella also got some bows for her hair and a new shampoo she'd been wanting to try out.

"so i take it you know about how me and maya know each other?" mirella nodded.

"yeah." nervana sighed.

"so im at this sleep over for pity?" mirella shook her head.

"not from me... and definitely not from maya." maya wouldn't have invited nervana for pity. she wouldn't even be talking to nervana out of pity.

"so what.. you wanted me to come over? i know maya doesn't want me around."

"i want maya to try to be nice.. i want you two to be friendly with each other and not feel so much animosity towards each other."

"you're a nice person, mirella." the dark haired girl smiled.

"you can call me ella... we're passed formalities." nervana smiled warmly.

they shopped around the shopping center for awhile before they decided it was time to head home. though mirella decided she wanted to get something for dinner. her mom was working the night shift. the original plan was for her to make dinner but she didn't feel like it anymore.

"could you call maya and see if she wants chinese?" mirella asked while loading their bags in the car.

"i think maya would rather starve than take something in offering her." ella returned the cart before climbing into the front seat.

"technically i'm offering." nervana groaned and called maya.

"hey, we're stopping to get chinese food.. you want anything?"

"nope." she mumbled before hanging up. nervana looked at mirella with a glare.

"i told you."

mirella and nervana got in and ate dinner downstairs and washed their new blankets before heading upstairs to shower. nervana showered first and mirella took this time to talk to maya.

"you really don't have to be so mean to her.. it's not her fault." maya groaned.

"i know that... something in my mind just convinces me to get so angry at everything she does." mirella just crossed her arms.

"well you need to convince your mind to stop... you're bullying her at this point."

"i just wish my dad never would have introduced us.. it would've been so much easier if she was just kept a secret." mirellas bedroom door was pushed open and she immediately tensed.

"i uh... i think im just going to head to my moms house." nervana collected up her bag and things as best she could, due to the tears clouding her vision.

"no, please stay." mirella said while standing from the bed.

"im clearly not welcome or wanted here.. id hate to ruin this night for you two." she shoved her clothes from the day into her backpack.

"oh my god." maya muttered, turning to find her phone.

"look, i didn't ask for this! i'm sorry our dad was a shitty man to your mom and i'm sorry he's trying to force us to be friends... but i didn't ask for this!" mayas shoulders tensed at nervanas yelling.

"yeah well nether did i." maya retorted.

"then you should know the feeling isn't a good one... it's bad enough that i feel like a burden to your family! it would be nice if you could cut me a break... trust me, if i could turn it around and have a different dad i would." mirella didn't know who to comfort, so she was just frozen. the two girl stared at each other as tears streamed down nervanas cheeks and mayas eyes glossed over.

"i don't want you to be your pity friend... i don't want to be your friend because dad told you to be nice to me... i don't want to be your friend at all, because really... you're just mean." nervana spat, frowning when maya weeped. making maya feel bad didn't make her feel as good as she thought it would. it didn't make her feel good at all.

"i'm sorry." she whispered, standing from the bed and slowly walked towards nervana. they stared at each other as they slowly broke down more. maya wrapped her arms around the girl. nervana collapsed into her hold, sobbing into her shoulder.

"i wish we would've met under different circumstances." maya held onto nervana with a death grip.

"me too." nervana said softly.

"i'm really trying, i promise i am! i just get so angry." nervana pulled away from maya.

"i know, i do too." it took a few minutes for the tears to stop, but when they did they couldn't help but laugh.

"god we're so stupid." nervana laughed, wrapping her arms around maya again.

"what just happened.?" mirella asked with a soft, confused chuckle.

after this exchange mirella went to take a shower. she wanted to give them some time alone to let out any other feelings they needed to. when she came back into her room maya was in bed and nervana had made a fort on the floor on the opposite side of the room.

she was wondering if they were still angry with each other, or maybe they made up. that's what she was hoping for, at least.

"you guys okay." she asked while hanging her towel on the back of the door.

"yup." nervana smiled softly. after this it took a little bit for them to actually be friends, but once they actually got comfortable with each other, they were inseparable.
