" Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin' and you're stayin' alive, stayin' alive. "
Athene walked through the streets of Japan, Tokyo, with her partner for her assignment, Ladybug, next to her as they both held their phones to their ears, in a joint call with their handler, Maria.
The two were filling in for Carver, another assassin, since he was off ill. It was Ladybug's first mission back after a hiatus and Athene - one of Maria's best assassins - was assigned to make sure Ladybug does okay.
"You know, I think I could live here, I like it here. I like the atmosphere, the people are considerate." Ladybug waffled on to Athene and Maria until a man who had definitely seen better days, banged into him, apologising quickly to Ladybug before walking off.
"Not that guy." Athene said as they watched the man walk off before continuing to the platform they were meant to be on.
Soon, they reached the lockers where their supplies would be for the mission, Athene watched expectantly at Ladybug to giver her the key for the locker.
"Shit," Ladybug said when digging in his pockets.
"Shit what?" Athene asked.
"I think I dropped the key when that guy bumped into me." Athene shook her head at Ladybug who shrugged his shoulders at her. She hung up on the call from her phone before pulling a bobby pin out of her hair and picking the lock on the locker that was theirs.
Ladybug continued bashing Carver as she handed him his earpiece, firecrackers, sleeping powder, and a pouch to put it all in. She then put her own earpiece in, put one of the two guns in her holster that was strapped to her thigh, being covered by her black dress that flowed to her knees. As Athene silently and discreetly held the gun out for Ladybug, he shook his head.
"I'm going to assume you didn't take the gun?" Maria spoke through the earpiece, Athene smirking to herself.
"Barry says every conflict is an opportunity for a peaceful... what was it?" He trailed off.
"And your handler says says conflict requires a gun."
"And your partner agrees." Athene nodded, "Shit, we need to go." She said, grabbing Ladybug's arm and dragging him onto the train before the doors closed.
"Okay, we're on." Ladybug said.
"Well, that's a start." Maria replied.
"Wow, not bad. Nicer than the tubes in London." Athene said as she looked around the carriage, speaking in her British accent.
As Ladybug went on to explain his idea for his ideal agency, Athene started scanning the shelves and seats for the briefcase they were assigned to get.
"Ticket please." The train conductor asked the two. Just like at the lockers, Ladybug's face dropped as he realised he didn't have the tickets, just a receipt, "This is a receipt, not a ticket."
"But, it says that we purchased two tickets on it, right?" Athene interjected, trying to get the situation over with and not to draw too much attention to the two of them.
The train conductor's face went straight as he looked at it again, "One stop." He said before walking off.
"What's in the case?" Athene asked as they walked through another carriage.
"You both know what's in the case." Maria replied.
"Money, it's always money." Ladybug shook his head.
As they walked further down, Athene's eyes were caught by another pair, she looked at the young-looking man and gave him a small smile - the one all British people do to each other - noticing that he wasn't that bad looking. He reciprocated the small smile as she walked past, turning his head slightly to watch her walk into the other carriage with Ladybug.
"Go talk to her, mate." Lemon said, noticing the interaction his brother and the woman had.
Tangerine shook his head, "I'm working, I need to focus."
"Alright then." Lemon shrugged as he looked out of the window.
"Okay, I'll go down further, you look here." Athene said as she started to walk back through the carriage she just went through. Walking past Tangerine again, his gaze following her as she walked down the middle.
"So, you're saying six cars in economy, let's say thirty passengers per car, I'm guessing two bags per, let's see, times two and... Oh yeah, no fucking way I'm going to find one briefcase-" Ladybug spoke into the earpiece, but Athene focused more on the shelves in front of her across the train, "Found it."
"Train sticker on the handle?" Athene asked through the earpiece.
"Yep."
"Okay, now get off the train." Maria said.
"I'm going to put distance between me and the owners, I'll meet you on the platform." Ladybug said as he walked through the first class carriages.
As the train came to a stop, Athene got out, but soon Ladybug was speaking frantically into her ear, "Nope, get back on I'm in a situation."
"The fuck?" Athene asked as she quickly got back on.
"I'm in," She heard him grunt as if he was fighting, "The first class lounge."
"Alright, I'm coming." Athene walked quickly through the carriages.
Once she reached the lounge, she saw Ladybug setting up a limp body in a seat and putting a bottle of whiskey in the man's hand.
"What the hell happened here?" She asked, shocked by the mess that was made and the man in the seat.
"He just started attacking me, saying something about revenge." Ladybug panted with his hands on his hips as they both looked at the body.
"Is he dead?"
Ladybug nodded, Athene then went and carefully took the knife out of his chest.
"Nice knife- oh my fucking hell." Athene's face dropped as she read the writing on the knife.
"What is it?" Maria asked.
"Ladybug you just killed The Wolf." Athene said, hearing Maria sigh into the earpiece.
"Oh the groom, I knew I'd seen him somewhere!" Ladybug realised.
"Well, it's done now, let just go somewhere else and get off at the next stop." Athene said, leading them down the compartments until the train conductor spotted them, telling them to get off the train.
As they went to the nearest exit, they saw a man with a gun standing guard, assuming he was the owner of the case, they backed away into another compartment, trying to reach a different door. Athene watched as the momomon grabbed the case from Ladybug, teasing him with it, before she could step in, the man punched the poor person in the face and grabbed the case back.
"Fuck, how was that a minute?"
"Shitballs, that wasn't a minute." The two said at the same time as the door closed on them and the train soon speeded off.
