"You think it'll work?" Alec asks quietly, crossing his arm on his shoulders. Corine looks over him with soft expression on her face.

"That's the only way to bring Clary's memories back. And we need to do this if we don't want Valentine to become more stronger, you know that" she explains, holds his hand. "I know you don't want anyone hurt, Alec," she cups his cheeks in her hands, smiling slightly. "And we won't let anyone get hurt, I promise," she gives her word and before raven haired could reply someone interrupt their conversation.

"Clary draw the pentagram, we're ready. Are you two coming yet?" Isabelle glances at pair inquisitively. She notices her brother's uncertain gaze, but a moment later he replace it with dispassionate look, as always. She sighs silently, crossing her arms.

"We were just about to go to you," Cora tells, moving to her parabatai.

They enter the next room, where everyone was already standing at their places on the pentagram drawn by the red-haired. There were five places, so one person had to be excluded from the entire 'ceremony'. It was Izzy who stops by the wall and leans against it, scanning everyone with her eyes. "This time I'm gonna pass. But I'll be there if something goes wrong," she explains and they just nodd.

"So, I will lead this ceremony," Magnus begin. "The demon name is Valak. At some point he'll want payment for Clary's memories," he explains as everyone stare at him frowns. It wasn't sound really good.

"What kind of payment?" Jace asks.

"We will see," Magnus mutters, starting to say some spell. All of they're nervous and uptight. After all, they were summoning the Great Demon, and that could always result in unwanted consequences.

When Magnus began to summon the demon, Corine suddenly feel a strange kind of stinging sensation throughout her body. It's weird. She'd never felt anything like this in the presence of any demons. However, she ignores it, thinking that she's just imagining it or something. Alec notices his girlfriend's strangely distant look and feels her hands sweating. This always meant that Corine was stressed.

"My necklace is pulsing," they look switch to Izzy who's staring at the jewelry on her neck.

"Yes, Valak is here," Magnus says. "Do not break the bond!" he adds quickly as demon energy's getting stronger and it's hard to keep their bond. "He wants payment now!"

"What kind of payment?" Alec asks, watching Magnus nervously. Warlock frowns, pointing his look at Corine.

"He wants you, sweetheart," Alec frowns automatically, looking at his girlfriend in fear. What's that supposed to mean? Why did he want Corine? It didn't make any sense. She's just a shadowhunter, that's all.

"What?" she questions gulping. Before Magnus could've say or do anything demon's already near to Cora. Alec has no choice. He couldn't just stayed here and watching Corie taken by demon. It was obvious that he wouldn't ever let him do it. She's the best he had.

"No!" he pushes the blonde aside, breaking the bond between their five and redirecting the demon's attention to himself.

"Alec, don't!" Jace shouts, afraid of his parabatai getting hurt, but it was already too late.

Alec was laying on the floor unconscious. Cora, Jace and Izzy quickly run towards him, not paying attention to Clary killing the Great Demon.

"No, no, no, Alec. Please, be alright,"she knelt down next to him, taking his face in her hands. "Alec, be okay, be okay,"

Alec rolls his eyes when Corine asked him again if he's sure he's feeling well and if maybe he should stay with Magnus for a while. Man was already irritated by the blonde's subsequent persistent questions.

"I'm alright, Corine. And I was alright earlier. I past out for what, like fove second? I'm feeling good," he says, taking his face away from girl's hands.

"Stop doing this. I'm just worried about you, Alec," he rolls his eyes again and tries to go out of room, but she grabs his arm. Her grip, although she felt it was strong, was practically unnoticeable to Alec. Still, he stops, pointing his look at her.

"I should go back to the Institute. They-" he pauses, sighs then. "They need me, us there. They'll probably get into some troubles again. And I'm completely fine, Corie, I promise," he smiles slightly and she nodds.

"Okay, right, lets go back to the Institute," she gives him a smile and they both left Magnus apartament. But there's one fundamental question still swirling around in Corine's mind. She tries to keep clear head and that smile on her face, but it was harder when she couldn't stop thinking about Valak and his payment.

What, by the Angel, the Great Demon wants from her?
