It was the year after the war, all 7th-year students were forced to come back to the school to officially do their exams and graduate. No matter how many complaints were sent out by students, there was no choice.  Hogwarts had been fixed up after the war, but the old pupils will always remember the state of it, the broken buildings and bodies everywhere. It was traumatic, to say the least. The great hall would never have the same sparkle it did when Professor Dumbledore stood behind the podium. The towers would never have the same sparkle they did before the spells and curses were cast. The castle was different. It was strange, being back there. The Golden Trio was especially nervous to go back, which was strange in a way, Hermione Granger not wanting to go back to school? You only hear that once. Ron Weasley, the brave ginger who helped save Harry, didn't want to walk the same cursed halls he did before. Harry felt the worst, why would he want to go back to the place where he had to face his death!? Still, they had to go, no matter what. Then there was then young Draco Malfoy, oh Malfoy. The boy who was forced to follow his father's footsteps as a death eater. He had no choice! People will never know the trauma he had to go through. The only people who still liked him were the 4 Slytherins who knew what happened at Malfoy Manor, the 4 Slytherins who knew almost everything about him. These Slytherins were called Blaise Zabini, Astoria Greengrass, Theodore Nott and Pansy Parkinson.

The train ride was boring, and long. In carriage one were Hermione, Harry, Ron, and Ginny. Their carriage was small, but certainly fit them all. Hermione and Ron decided to just stay friends whereas Harry and Ginny became even closer. They did almost everything together and went on dates every other day. I suppose that was due to the fear of losing each other, which (of course) was fair. It was just a little gross, they were always touching each other. Currently, Ginny was sitting on Harry's lap, his arms wrapped around her waist as they slept. Hermione was on the other side of the carriage, teaching Ron how to play the muggle game 'Uno'.

"UNO!" Hermione giggled with joy as she won the game.

"That's unfair! It's my first time playing!" Ron smiled and jokingly scowled.

"Too bad Weasley! I won!" She takes his chocolate frog, which was the prize for the winner.

"Fine, you got me this time." He laughed.

Suddenly the carriage door opened and Draco Malfoy looked in. Hermione pulled out her wand in a millisecond and said, "Get out, Malfoy."

He sighed and spoke, "I'm not here for any of them, I'm here for you. McGonagall wants us to the front of the train to discuss something, I'd rather go looking the same as I left, thanks."

Hermione scowled and stood up, "That's Professor McGonagall to you, ferret." As she began to leave, she felt a tap on her back, she turned and saw Ron.

"He tries anything, you tell me, I'll kill him." Ron glared at Draco.

"I got this, Ron, but thanks." With that, she left the carriage with Draco, her wand up her sleeve just in case. "What did she want to discuss?" Hermione questioned as Draco shrugged and replied, "I don't know, she just said to come get you. Something about duties? I don't know."

"Oh..." Hermione sighed.

They continued to walk through the train in silence, tension in the air. Suddenly, Hermione tripped over a metal strip to the next set of carriages. As she prepared to fall, none other than Draco Malfoy caught her in his arms. She cleared her throat and stood back on her feet. "Oh, uh, thank you..." she said, red scattered across her naturally rosy cheeks. "It's no problem, we're almost there I think." He looked down the train and continued walking as if nothing happened. They continued walking, Hermione hiding her cheeks all the way there. When they arrived, Malfoy knocked on McGongall's carriage door and entered.

"Please, take a seat." She tells the two of them as they sat in front of her. "I would like to let you know that you have both been named Head Boy and Head Girl!" Draco and Hermione were never the best of friends. In fact, they pretty much despised each other. It was shocking they were put together but they didn't care.

"What!?" Draco shouted as Hermione smiled with joy.

"Thank you so much, Professor! I'm super happy to have this opportunity!" She said with happiness.

"How did I get it? Everyone hates me!"

"Mr Malfoy, you had to make a difficult decision, and if any of our students had to choose, they would do the same. People will come around, Malfoy." McGonagall explained. "We believe that we have made a good decision, if you would like to pull out of this position, you may, but there will be a significant loss of house points you would've gained if you do, Mr Malfoy."

"I'm sure not everyone hates you, Malfoy," Hermione said, genuinely meaning it.

"You don't get it mudblood." Draco stormed out.

Hermione swallowed and McGonagall looked at her. "He's a stressed young boy, don't take it to heart."

"I won't, thank you for the position by the way Professor, I will not abuse my power."

"Good, you may leave."

Hermione nodded and left the carriage, thinking of what Draco had said. Should she go check up on him? Or should she just leave him? 'I'll go ask Ginny.' she thought as she walked down the train. She was careful this time to not trip up the metal seeing as there was no Draco to catch her this time. Finally, she got to her carriage and walked in. Still standing, she looked at Ginny, who was currently smogging Harry.

She clicked her fingers at Ginny, "Hey! GINNY!"

Ginny jumped and looked at Hermione, "What!?" she asked.

"I got pronounced as head girl!" the carriage cheered, "but Malfoy's head boy..." they stopped.

"What!?" Harry shouted, "No way! Why would they choose him!?"

"I don't know, but don't be too hard on him, I think he's going through something right now..."

"I don't care! That's ridiculous!" Ron exclaimed.

"Did he call you a... you know?" Ginny asked.

"He probably didn't mean to, he seems stressed."

"Why do you care?" Harry asked.

Before Hermione could answer, Ginny explained. "Hermione has a deep fear of people being upset, no matter if she likes them or not." Hermione nodded before saying, "I'm gonna' go check on him, bye guys."

"Good luck!" They shouted in unison. She left the carriage and made her way to the Slytherin section. Abruptly, she came across the Malfoy carriage, with Pansy, Blaise, Theo, and Astoria inside. She knocked gently on the carriage door.

"Come in," Blaise said without looking up.

Hermione opened the door and looked at them.

"Oh, it's the mudblood!" he shouted, Pansy glared at him.

"Have you guys seen Malfoy?"

"Whats' it to you?" Theo asked.

"I don't know, he ran out of the carriage when Mcgonagall said he was Head Boy, I told him that no one hated him but he just kinda' ran out. I was just making sure he was okay I guess..." she explained.

"Hm, maybe you aren't so bad." Theo mumbled.

"Sorry 'Mione, we haven't seen him, we'll let you know though." Pansy smiled.

"Thanks Pans'." Hermione smiled back as she left. After the war, Pansy decided to make amends with everyone she had been mean to, this brought the two of them closer together, making them friends. After a couple hours, and many games of 'Uno' with the sore loser Ron, they arrived at the castle.

Hermione took a deep breath and said, "We're finally back."
