Genevieve’s P.O.V
That should have been the first question we asked before we got into all this other stuff we were talking about. Of course, how could we have been so stupid? That would explain why Aurelio conveniently always knew what was happening inside our household and why he would show up at the perfect time. There was someone in our home who was working against us.
“This person probably is part of the staff. It couldn’t have been an outside job,” I said and Jack ground his teeth, his jaw ticking like a time bomb. I know how he felt; how could he have not realized it sooner that there was a rotten egg in his crew?
Without a word, he stalked over to the door that led to his secret room. I scrambled from the couch and followed after him, finding him seated in front of the numerous computer screens. They all powered up one by one, showing live footage of what was happening in the whole house. Honestly, this wasn’t as surprising as it ought to have been. Jack was paranoid, so having these installed might have been a brilliant idea in hindsight.
“Let’s check earlier feed to see who went into our bedroom,” he voiced before using the keyboard and mouse to access it. He slowed it down, but it seemed the only person that had gone in there was Cayetana so that she could clean the room. After that, and prior to that, it seemed nobody else had gone in there.
I asked him to replay it, my eyes fixed on the clock. I’d noticed that there was a slight interference which made the time go from 9.45.34 AM straight to 9.52.38 AM. And that wasn’t all that I scouted out. The feed on at least five of the screens was also off at different intervals that were close, which meant it had been digitally manipulated.
“Can you scoot over for me, Jack,” I stated rather than asked and assumed the chair. I had learnt a bit of editing and coding from my brother and his friends as they were obsessed with the world of computers. Right now, I was thankful for that and I hoped I could bypass this.
Jack stood beside me, watching me with his piercing eyes. It made me uncomfortable to be held under such inquisitive scrutiny but we were both in the same boat here. A few tweaks later, I’d brought back the original footage. As per my earlier assumption, the person who had placed the letter on our bed was in fact a part of the staff.
“Goddammit!” Jack cursed and stepped off to the side, running his hand through his hair in frustration. My lips curled inwards in utter repulsion, and yet, I was satisfied that all my claims had been proven to have been correct all this time. I slowly rose from the chair and turned to Jack with my arms crossed. He saw the look on my face and sighed in exasperation. “I guess you were right,” he admitted abashedly.
I, on the other hand, didn’t bother to contain my self-righteous retort. “I told you so! I am so happy that you finally saw I was right about that b-tch from the moment I saw her. And what did you do, you made her the freaking head maid. I guess you were thinking with your ass when you did that,” I spat before smirking at him.
He came over to me and put his hands on my shoulders. “Baby, I’m very happy that you’re finding all this amusing and I know you told me so. I was a dumbass but right now isn’t time for celebration. We need to find that duplicitous snake and…,” he stopped short and glared at the ground wordlessly.
That didn’t sound at all good. “And then what?” I gulped. I wanted the wench gone, but the way he just spoke it sounded as though he wanted to…get rid of her.
Instead of giving me a response, he ushered me out of the room and office altogether to the lounge where he summoned Perez, Lewis, a few other guards and all the maids. But one of them was missing, the one whom we wanted to interrogate. I cussed under my breath. “She’s not even here, as you can see,” I pointed out angrily and stomped my foot. Childish, I know, but I was seriously upset by this.
