(First part🙂)

Keegan pov:

I crouched in the dense underbrush, the cool night air chilling my skin as I surveyed the enemy encampment through my night-vision goggles.

The mission had been briefed by Merrick as routine-a standard reconnaissance operation deep in enemy territory. In our world, routine was a luxury we couldn't afford. Things changed too often in our home territory, let alone No Man's Land. The distant chatter of guards reached my ears, and my eyes shifted to them, patrolling.

My fingers brushed against the cold metal trigger of the sniper rifle I was holding. I radioed the others.

"Four guards on ground level, two sentries up on the watch towers."

"Copy. Hesh and Keegan, take out the sentries, your call." Merrick says,

"Copy. Line up, Hesh. I'll take the right, you take the left." I say, taking aim at the guard. "On your call, Keegan." Hesh replied.

All of a sudden, the two sentries drop like flies.

"Good shots, boys" Merrick approves, "Now the guards at ground level. Logan you take the one at 3 o'clock. Hesh, yours is at two. Mine's eleven and Keegan, you take the one at twelve."

"Copy."

"Affirm."

"In position," I add, lined up to my guy.

Four synchronized shots rang out, making the outer area of the base quiet and de-contested.

"Area clear, free to move up." Merrick says, "Remember to stay low and quiet in case, and to use the trees for cover."

"Copy all," I say, moving forward with the rest of the team.

Ever since Rorke was killed, after killing Hesh and Logan's dad, Eli, Merrick took charge. He was the one with the highest rank, and the most experience out of the team. I wasn't complaining, Merrick did good. Really good. But not as good as Eli had ever been. None of us were as good as him, but we would all die trying to be.

I shake my head, getting loose from my thoughts. It wasn't good that I kept getting stuck in my brain, especially during a mission. I continue moving with my team, until we get the halt sign from Merrick.

We stay there silently at the edge of the enemies base, scoping out the place for any others that we may have missed. The bodies are still crumpled around the perimeter from where we shot them earlier.

"Keegan, hide that body," he says, pointing at the lifeless body, draped over a concrete barrier. "I can see it from a mile away."

I go over to the bloody body, dragging it off of the barrier block. I dropped it behind the barrier, where it would be harder to see.

"Move in." Merrick says after the bodies were decently hidden. We move in slowly and cautiously, sweeping the place for any other enemies.

"The lights are being killed in five, we take the extra uniforms and hope to blend in. Try not to draw any suspicion."

I slip the uniform over my shirt. It's mainly winter camouflage so I only had to take the jacket and mask... especially the mask, seeing that these people are trying to kill us Ghosts. I regroup with Logan, Hesh, and Merrick, all of us decked out in the enemy's gear, ready to infiltrate this hell-hole.
