Milly has never been at her university after dark.
She never stayed after at all. There was no reason to she didn't know anyone here. No one except Conri, and she wasn't sure if she wanted to be around him anymore.
She sighed at the thought before entering the office of her guidance counselor after one of her many teachers made a complaint about her.
She was sure she'd done nothing wrong. She went to her classes during the day and worked herself to the bone at Mrs. Sienna's diner. She didn't start any trouble nor did she go out of her way to talk to others.
She just kept to herself and did the bare minimum so she could graduate, but it seemed like that was the issue.
"Milly! Thank you for coming." The man's voice boomed through the office scaring her slightly.
Mr. Bailey, a joyful canine grinned at her and gestured to the chair in front of him. Milly scurried over and quickly sat in the chair.
"Alright, Miss Lockhart. I'm assuming you know why you're here?" She nodded slowly confirming his words.
"Well, I just wanted to explain further of your teachers' concern." The man shuffled through papers at his desk with a thoughtful hum, "They're worried about your lack of connections and grades. You haven't joined any clubs or sororities. You don't reach out for subjects you struggle in and most of your projects are lackluster including the most recent partner one you had." He lists off.
The doe only nods not knowing what to tell the man.
He notices her reluctance and grunts, "You're a Nursing major, right?" She nods again.
He shakes his head and grins, "Well I'd be scared to have you as my nurse, you seem very uninterested in it." He jokes, Milly blushes in embarrassment.
"I'm sorry sir, it's just..." What was she going to say? She's too busy being stalked and followed by some psycho bunny while also finding out her friend is a monster. All while she's working on the clock to keep her lousy apartment which was broken into not too long ago.
Mr. Bailey huffs, "There's no excuse, your grades have dropped terribly as of recently. If this keeps up you can lose your scholarship which could lead to you dropping out." The man warns worriedly.
Milly's heart pounded in her chest, as he lectured her about her failing grades. "You're an adult. If you can't handle simple classes you'll never make it in the field you're aiming for." He harshly critiques.
Tears welled up in Milly's eyes, threatening to spill over. She felt overwhelmed and alone at that moment, there was no one she could go to to get rid of the struggles she's been facing.
But deep down, she knew she couldn't give up. She wants to help her family. She had to.
To ease the burden on her mother, to help her father rest safely, and to give her brother a leisurely life. She had come too far to let her dreams slip away.
Taking a deep breath, Milly mustered the courage to finally speak up. "Mr. Bailey, I understand that my grades are not where they should be, and I take full responsibility for that. But please, believe me when I say I'm trying. I just..."
She blinks away her tears and stares at the man. "I've had some difficult events outside of school they are making things tough for me. Right now my job is essential for me to support myself, and it often leaves me with little time and energy to use for my studies. I hate to admit it but I haven't really been paying attention to my classes, I've been too exhausted." She admits her troubles to the man carefully.
