Milly walked out of her last class of the day, feeling relief and exhaustion take hold of her.
She made her way through the hallways, and she noticed a crowd gathering around a bulletin board in the college. Some wore looks of defeat while others grinned proudly.
The reactions rose her curiosity as she approached to see what had captured everyone's attention. She was shocked to see the winter exam results were displayed on the board.
Milly's eyes scanned the list of names until she found her own, ranking within the top twenty students.
She never scored that high before.
A sense of accomplishment washed over her, she wanted to be proud of herself but she knew deep down that her success was due to your frequent tutoring.
It was all because of you.
The thought of thanking you for the help made her uncomfortable though. To thank someone who took lives, to thank someone who got everything they wanted.
Milly couldn't shake off the fear and uneasiness that came with being around you, no matter how charming she knew better than to think you were a pure angel.
But you depicted one so well.
She stood in the hallway, lost in her thoughts, grappled with conflicting emotions.
She wanted to acknowledge your help with her family and express gratitude for every one of your efforts. But on the other hand, she couldn't ignore the fear that lingered within her.
That you weren't doing it out of the kindness of your heart.
That you were doing it for some reason other than... loving her.
Milly's face became rosy as she remembered the praises you sang her every time you'd meet. It boosted her self esteem, it made her feel cherished, and she really loved the feeling.
But she couldn't help but question, why did it have to be you?
Why did this all have to be complicated?
She sighed, it didn't need to be hard. She'd simply thank you for everything you did. She didn't owe you anything else.
That's what she told herself.
Milly nodded at her plans.
Just as she was about to turn to head home, a tall buck grabbed her attention, more like she bumped into the man.
His striking features and smoldering expression made him stand out from the crowd. His slender fingers handed her an envelope while his gaze pierced into her soul.
"Excuse me, Miss," He spoke with a velvety voice that sent shivers down her spine. "She told me to give you this." The handsome man blushed at whoever 'she' was.
She examined the envelope, noticing the elegant calligraphy of her name written on it. She grabbed the letter from him and he walked away without a word.
Who was this man, and why was he giving her this letter? Where you the 'she' he spoke of?
"Thank you." Milly replied to the stranger despite him leaving already. She carefully placed the letter in her bag with a huff.
She wouldn't open it yet not until she got home. She needed to make a phone call, it would determine how she'd go about the future.
