I sat alone in the bar like I always did. I sipped my drink. I was dressed up but, this was the first time I felt uneasy. I remembered the month before.
Flashback:
"Hey mom! The company who you had suggested to apply to get hired to was a really great choice. They hired me!" I exclaimed through the phone. "That is great! When do you start?" She asked me.
"I should start in a week." I said. "That's such lovely news." She said excited. I looked over at my daughter sleeping peacefully on the couch after we watched Two weeks notice. I smiled at her sleeping figure. "It is." I said. "That is good to hear. Well, I hope you do great on your job." My mom congratulated me. I smiled and nodded my head, "I will do a great job." I said.
Two days later...
I rushed into the hospital. I frantically searched for the nurses' station. "Where is patient Archibald Mi-jo?" I asked. "The fifth floor, room 5008." She answered after checking the database. I thanked her before I rushed to the top floor. I was a little confused as to why she was on the VIP floor but, I ignored it as I ran to the room. I rushed in and sighed as I saw her sitting up chatting with dad.
"Mom!" I exclaimed as I hugged her. "I am fine." She said. I looked over at my dad. "You aren't okay? You nearly drowned giving a scuba tour!" I exclaimed. "But, they noticed I was having troubled and I was saved." "You are an excellent diver. It makes no sense." She looked away. "It must have been a bad day for me. I don't know." She said. I looked at her frowning. She looked away when she lied. "Mo--" "Mom! Are you okay?" I froze in my spot. The voice was familiar. I slowly turned around and my eyes widened. I wasn't wrong.
"Allora." He said.
"Taeh---"
"Ah! You are awake. Well, your arrythmia was told to the EMTs so we were able to help you better. But, you have been told that you shouldn't dive Mrs. Archibald. I remember telling that to you too Mr. Kim." The doctor said as he checked mom's health. "You told him?" I asked confused. "Allora..." my mom said. "Uhm.. who are you ma'am?" he asked me. "Her daughter." "Oh, I thought you were..." the doctor said looking at Taehyung confused. "What did you mean by you told him?" I asked him again. "The last five years he came with her for a checkup, consultation." "Five years." I repeated softly, hurt. "Allora." My mom said. I didn't look her way. "He may have been there for the last five years. But, I am here now. I would like you to tell everything regarding her health to me and no one else." I said. He nodded his hesitantly. "Should I tell you in my office?" He asked. I nodded my head.
We walked out the door. He told me how she had fallen and that Taehyung had rushed as her guardian. He made sure to get her the best doctor in the country which was him when she was admitted to different hospital before. He was the one who made sure to accompany her to all checkups. The first time they had discovered she had arrythmia he hadn't left her side all those days. He had fought, yelled and begged her to not dive. She promised him. She broke the promise and he seemed to have found out. He told the doctor to give the proper medications to help her during diving long hours and multiple days until she slowly stopped. She does it every week. He had been trying to get her off that too. But, she was too stubborn to listen.
I found out which new medications she had to take and that from now on she couldn't dive at all. I thanked him for his consultation and walked back. He was sitting outside waiting for me. I walked past him.
"Allora." He said. "She doesn't need you anymore. I have come back and I can take of MY mother now. Do send me the expenses until now, I will pay them back. You don't need to anything more. You have done enough." I said in a harsh and cold tone. I didn't wait for his response and walked into the room. "Where is..." "He won't be looking after you. I am here and we don't need him." I said. "Allora but..."
